mystery, poetry, a play of masks: artistic creation according to john cravache. his collaboration with versatile dates back to the beginning of the millennium. a childhood friend of i:cube, he is 44 years old, lives in a paris suburb, and is not a professional artist. getting involved in writing, he has been boasting his artistic and economic independence and his crafty attitude outside of the industrial system. he gave himself time to invent a personal world, wild and funny, which eventually gave birth to the album -cités nomades-. even though his influences are quite varied and avant-garde (magma, captain beefheart, tom waits), they did not really affect this unclassifiable project. poetry and mystery come before all, because john cravache is appearing masked. john cravache and nicolas chaix (i:cube) have recorded radio creations since the early 90s, in particular for chimère fm in paris, as well as numerous long improvised music sessions. at the approach of the millennium, they embarked on the creation of an album that was not completed until sixteen (!) years later. john is a poet, accomplished pianist, and registered truck driver and nicolas, a self-taught musician, have both made the realisation of -cités nomades- possible. this is not an ironic pop album, this album is simply all you want. listening will do you much good

it all began with a licensing inquiry for a sister funk cut which we wanted to include on our deep funk comp titled “feeling nice vol. 3”. after the deal was completed producer fred forsh mentioned that the backing band of nadine brown’s masterpiece “leave me alone” had released a 45 themselves under their name teakwood. after mr. forsh played us both sides we knew that this 45 would have to be re-issued. what was about to follow nobody of us ever expected. mr. forsh told us that teakwood recorded almost a dozen of songs which were supposed to be released on a full length album. for unspecified reasons the album was never released and it remained in the can for almost 40 years. finally, we are very proud to announce the release of teakwood’s debut album “a distant star” in early 2017. until then you have to be content with this 45 rpm single re-issue.

roberto auser is known for his wide range of sounds and releases on viewlexx and his own ausland label. next to that he is part of kaval (vrystaete). even though his releases until now go from italo disco inspired electro to exotica and dark jazz influenced electronics his production is always rather smooth. for enfant terrible he shows his raw and dirty side. “faceless future” is an old school minimal elektro record done with analogue synths with a real industrial and post-punk attitude. this record pays tribute to (early) cabaret voltaire, (early) front 242 and (later-day) le syndicat electronique. simply minimal electronics as it should sound… rough and unpolished…

cosmic & earthy dubbed out house by zarate_fix from narrabeen & dj sotofett of moss – sex tags mania. the percussive title track expands little by little until reaching a cosmic choral state, then giving space for a long-driven flute solo. b1 provides pure dub chains of percussion and an extended flute part while b2 goes further towards the beatless beautiful cosmos with soft chimey new age ambient synths.

for the second and last ep of contemporary spaces remixes, dynamic reflection welcomes yet another batch of talented producers to the label. just like the first remix ep, it is a mix between household names, and up and comers. first off, it’s perc’s interpretation of glide. the uk based artist, who is known for his use of distortion and aggressiveness, takes it down a notch on this occasion. he has made glide into a echoing and glitchy track that doesn t reach its energy peak until the last couple of minutes. matrixxman takes overwith his biohazard mix of future existence, which contains a tensive synth, confined by a filter that gradually opens,and than closes again, retaining your attention at all times. on the bside, shdw and obscure shape reshaped the hunt to provide the first outright dance floor track of the ep. with its thumping kick and epic pads around the breaks, it’s bound to win crowds over in the club. dutch talent ben buitendijk also remixed future existence, in his own distinctive, hypnotic style. a deep, though energetic track with a very mature sound.

get weird follows on from gws last release in smooth style with this beautiful, dreamlike superlounge release. whether the sun is rising or falling both tracks create beautiful moments with their delicate melodic soundscapes. underpinned by confident drum arrangements and warm baselines each will take you somewhere quite special. just in time for the dust or for after the dust settles these tracks slowly ebb their way in to your soul. until the next time. get weird.

italian label greentech was inaugurated by minimono last year with a great remix by windy city legend paul johnson. the second edition features gaetano caruana aka caruan making his debut in production after many years of djing. -tempo reale- is an inventive and off kilter groove generated by clearly analogue means that pounds and grinds away out of sync at first, until it gradually begins to lock and it sounds great. there s some killer remixes by a real who s who of the scene and we can t help but mention all of them! first up fellow italians verrina & ventura deliver a typically stripped and rolling minimal house rendition. croatian hypnotic techno don petar dundov then delivers something more pounding and aggressive than we re used to, but we loved it all the same. finally the -eduardo de la calle tempo intrusion reale remix- sees the spanish master of trance induction deliver one of his best remixes in a while, complete with spooky sci-fi atmosphere, millsian bleeps and sonar blips.

secret crunch is a label fresh out of the oven run by fellow vienna-based artists roman rauch and moony me. both musicaly rooted in hiphop, soul, funk and disco and expressing themselves mainly through house music, it was just a matter of time until they first colaborated together. thoughts about releasing their output together through an own label came naturally soon after. the first release of secret crunch is a pure collaboration between them plus two additional remixes – one by gnork and another by medlar & ishmael

stoned raiders is the sixth studio album by hip hop group cypress hill. originally released in 2001, stoned raiders is best known for its two singles - “trouble” and “lowrider”. the song “kronologik” also summarizes cypress hill’s career from their debut movlp041 in 1991 until the album was released.

rhythm büro is a new record label based out of kiev, ukraine started by dj and promoter igor glushko. the büro first began as a local party series organised by igor, alexander pavlenko (aka na nich, widely known in the drum’n’bass world as sunchase) and vera logdanidi (aka vero). since the party’s beginning in march 2015, rhythm büro has hosted such greats as zadig, abdulla rashim, etapp kyle, eric cloutier, woo york, artefakt, acronym, steve bicknell and actress all at different non-club warehouse-like locations around kiev. a peculiar aspect of the rhythm büro team’s objective has been to maintain secrecy about the exact location of the party until a day prior to the event, when ticket buyers are then informed about the location via text message or email. the label was started to be the logical and progressive extension to what rhythm büro has established itself to be locally: one of ukraine’s prominent techno initiatives. for the first release of the label, na nich and vero have contributed two joint-produced tracks that are to become their first publicly available material under their current aliases. while a1 leans itself to the soundscape that is more or less typical for rhythm büro parties: trippy, hypnotic and transportive techno, a2 hits the floor with refreshing zeal, bringing an electro-esque break-beat under deep and emotive synth layers. the b side contains two remixes of the title track, one of which is thoroughly tailored by the dutch-born-berlin-based-duo, artefakt (mostly known for their releases on delsin, prologue and field) as well as a strong and heady remix by semantica records’ mastermind, svreca.

pau encinas also known as cauto returns after several years of apparent inactivity. his previous ep, 35/8, was published in 2011 via disboot. since then until now, he has worked on several collaborations and remixes. one of the reasons for disboots existence is to promote and release young and local talent. cauto, without exception, is an essential one of these.
from his first release on dj rupture’s dutty artz in 2008, pau has been developing his skills as a producer and talented musician rooted in his background in catalan folk music. the culmination of his musical evolution is the crystallisation of his new lp.

at last! this one took literally years to piece together. does dennis bovell need an introduction? i think not but in case you dont know, he is a musical polymath, top flight producer, dub legend and one of the finest artists the uk has ever produced. optimo music has worked with dennis before when he went into green door studios and dubbed out golden teacher to the max. this disco plate ep was already in the works before then but various circumstances caused it to take until now to see the light of day

berlin-based producer lapien serves up an atmospheric three tracker on radio slaves rekids. also known as metropolis or one half of artefakt, nick lapiens last three releases have landed on finale sessions, fred ps soul people music and dvs1s mistress recordings. releasing on rekids, the multifaceted dutch artists next outing features three mesmerising cuts with the dusky a change is gonna come initiating the package using infectious hats, subtle sub-bass and an indistinguishable vocal that ebbs subtly in and out of the mix. as it is is the most robust number on the package with its undulating percussion and moody chords taking centre stage, until vexed concludes everything with gloomy pads, shuffling hats and echoing effects.

brotherhood sound system records is back with its third 12inch offering and the first in a series of compilations entitled percussive parameters delivering percussion heavy sonics focused directly at the dance floor. the lead track of the ep, callahans kudzu, opens with a chopped, atmospheric vocal layered intelligently over rolling percussion and a hypnotic flute. a pounding 808 kick drum is teased underneath until the track switches into a relentless, chugging club tool. this ones destined to tear up dance floors for a long time

jürgen karg’s career in music began in the 1960s as bass player for german jazz legend wolfgang dauner. it was not until the 1970’s that he switched his attention to electronic music, launching himself wholeheartedly into exploring the genre and building up an extensive collection of synthesizers over a five year period. his efforts culminated in “elektronische mythen”, a mighty opus of experimental music which reveals new aspects every time it is played. jürgen karg’s music is deeply serious, as vexing as a jamais vu, yet absolutely beautiful. “elektronische mythen” is an album which fits like a puzzle piece between the first and second soundtracks for a clockwork orange. it’s worth to check it out!

emotional especial comes together with future nuggets for a -special- one-off collaboration. reinterpreting the music of steaua de mare are four remixes from rising (eastern) stars khidja and mehmet aslan. the first in a short series of especial -specials- - where new artists are brought together for unique releases - we start by teaming up with future nuggets to present again the sonic offshoot in the unique band, steaua de mare. returning in remix form, songs from their self-titled album, as well as extra additions, are specially reworked. first khidja take album track babadag to new psychedelic depths, adding multiple layers of guitar and synths, all inexhaustibly dubbed and re-dubbed until a whole new track emerges for the more discerning minds. next mehmet aslan is focused on the dance-floor, carefully reconstructing new track shop into a club orientated groove, aiming straight at the feet with inevitable results. on the flip, mehmet then reworks album highlight, doamne ce greseala am, amassing tension in careful, subtle ways, crafting a version that is a proper meeting of hearts and minds. to finish, khidja return to remix the previously unreleased 1 septembrie. going to great lengths in managing a myriad of details, with balearic, kraut, pseudo-disco and exotica reverberations all pulsating, here then are on point examples of remix manipulation. a perfect way to start this series and showcase these wonderful artists.

a few years ago i saw a documentary about the audio trickery employed in ww2. i was totally flabbergasted and soon absorbed anything i could find on the subject. artists and scientists alike cooked up incredible situations to fool the german army. inflatable tanks and trucks stacked with speakers projecting recordings of an imaginary reality were used to deceive and deviate the opponent. this odd scenario influenced me profoundly and drove me towards composing music that related these feelings. the project only collected dust inside my head until radio bongo heard of it and encouraged me to finish. sveinbjörn bjarki jónsson aka sonic deception

serie limitee records is celebrating its 3rd anniversary with its 8th release on its parent label. a good occasion to welcome pascal viscardi, a promising swiss talent supported by mike huckaby, who signs here his first track using the legendary sp1200...and that s a groovy one. also, first release ever for sixon, sean dixon s alter ego, the manager of final chapter delivers here a sexy hypnotic bomb. already featured on sl007, it s the second release on serie limitee for neuronphase. it seems like winter has been rude in estonia, which is good for us, as it gave the artist more time to produce some deep n raw music which perfectly fits the label. and to close this ep, a beautiful track produced by japanese producer tominori hosoya, aka tomi chair. a pure pearl of deepness which takes the listener to an imaginary dancefloor on a desert sand beach until the early morning. as always, expect a mysterious bonus track by the label s manager, monsieur cedric.

cocoon recordings presents a freaked out deep techno highlight by two masters of their craft: gregor tresher & petar dundov! especially the a-side spike is a crazy monster and we do not exaggerate by writing that we have never heard something like this by these two masterminds before. mental, hypnotic and with a neverending synth firework that modulates with an endless release effect. the two really pushed electronic dance music at least ten steps further. tresher & dundov second mutual work on cocoon recordings follows with differentiator. the two stick to the basic concept of spike however this time it is the good old arpeggio that keeps on modulating until eternity. differentiator almost flows with a little trance appeal and there is even a cool and driving acid bassline giving us the final push. tresher & dundov present us two massive techno tunes that will definitely play in their own league this season!

having been recently shortlisted for the scottish album of the year award, we follow up theory of flo with some stellar remixes from friends and associates. first up highlife label mates, mehmet aslan and cain deliver the goods on cape malay prayer and hewal3 - as to be expected. what wasn t planned was this sublime rework by the revenge. we felt so precious about waiting for a (woman) - convinced that the original was too good to be tampered with - until an unexpected turn of events brought our fellow glaswegian (and say nominee) to the controls, resulting in a sophisticated rework for the dancefloor - who better really when you think about it?! released on vinyl courtesy of highlife x h+p this summer. more remixes on the way..

since 1987, frak have been everyone s favourite, premier swedish synthesizer-touching weirdos. even if most people hadn t heard of them until 4 years ago. and yet, world of frak is as long as it is wide. as blue as it is black. as ominous as it is glorious. as dirty as it is hairdryer. sweet it is as yellow paper as. all of the above is a perfect example of how trying to convey what frak is in the crass form of words is ultimately fruitless. here is a double 12inch vinyl product from ultimate hits featuring eight audio recordings from frak: three men who have known each other since at least 1987. the sleeve was lovingly hand screen-printed at the studio of house of traps, and features the colours commonly known as pink and black.

nice price deal !!! a good year lies ahead for sonar kollektiv: one of the stables most successful and most enduring horses is back at the starting gate. after a hiatus of seven years micatone will finally release their new and long-awaited fourth album >wish i was here< in march. with >gun dog< we get a jaunty candy as a taster for the enhanced richness, maturity and deepness of the berlin based fieve-pieces sound. in addition to the original album version the 12 inch features a more laid back rendition (shuffle version) and a remix by sonar kolletiv honcho alex barck. after his widely acclaimed remixes f.e. for incarnations and jeremy glenn, barck once again shows proof of his understanding how to make a proper song work in the club, most preferably at peak time. building up and up until half way through it suddenly breaks down to cause one of these magic, energized moments almost every respectable dj longs for. therefore, we dont see any reason why you shouldnt bag this one in!

work them records founder spencer parker presents the first in a trilogy of releases as brotherhood. the brotherhood moniker was originally coined as a way of differentiating parker s berghain appearances from his panorama bar appearances, hence why this series under the alias will be concentrated on techno. thudding kicks and eerie atmospherics pave the way in chapter one - a physical techno number that warps and changes throughout its almost 8 minute duration. chapter two then employs a twisted melody that works alongside a remorseless low-end throb until chapter three concludes the package with punchy percussion and echoing effect

strength lies in calmness – and vice versa. marcel fengler returns on imf and offers three new inspirited musical pieces that protrude from the club context just as well as cater for your home stereo, picking up on the diverse musical moods defined by his debut album fokus (ostgut ton, 2013) while concentrating on intertwining sound aesthetics. with “kyu” laid out on the a-side, this new 12- starts off with a delicate yet muscular floor-pleaser – its subtle 4/4 rhythm is counteracted by lush claps on 2/4, but the true finesse comes in form of its varying rhythmic details, crisp hi-hats and underlying, subtle melodies, most notably the twirling organ trills, sustained synth pads and alienated shout outs. “shitau” on b1 picks up on these introverted and adoring musical moods with more organic bell percussion and swelling synth layers adding a more cinematic touch to the complex rhythm patterns—then pausing for a short dreamy break, gaining speed again before culminating in a grand finale. “zen” follows up with intimate string arrangements until fengler varies the tone and tempo with tribalist percussion and a lush kick drum. this ep is an ideal companion, whether you re pruning your bonsai or branching out a club set.

number 14th comes with some serious grooves by a new project of one of the first artist of the label. salt is a perfect combination of old school house vibes and modern grooves. franck white is a timeless track with a rising melody that drives you until the end and beyond. sedould goes into another path with a never ending groove infected by some killer vocals. on the b side, rhythm&souls remix of franck white. taking the track into another dimension with tight beats and a modern house mood. a long and catchy rework. another release made to shake your legs on the dance floor.

real name fernando cappelletti, the rosario native’s early releases arrived on airdrop records, followed by appearances on esperanza before launching savor music alongside jorge savoretti in 2011. since then the label has hosted the likes of felipe valenzuela, martinez, kastil, marcman and franco cinelli whilst garnering a reputation as one of argentina’s key purveyors of house and techno. the album’s subterranean aesthetics are present from the beginning, with mesmerising tape echoes in ‘the real’, deep pads in ‘trb’ and the rhythmic energy of ‘rainforest’. ‘geibi’ then demonstrates intricate pops and glitches before ‘in amour’ settles for a compelling groove. ‘flavor’ is then a percussive number with a hypnotizing appeal until ‘faiser’ concludes the album with a punchy, dancefloor driven workout.

floating astronomical objects and the void in between – jon hester enters the dystopian circle with four gravity manipulating techno tracks coming directly through the wormhole. jon hester got his start in the midwest us, living in chicago, minneapolis, and connecting with detroit. after years on the dance floor he took to the decks, going on to work in a record shop, host his own events, and hold residencies that developed his sound. music production and a move to berlin followed, but dancing and mixing are still the inspirations that drive him to create. his dj sets are built on physical rhythms and adventurous programming, effortlessly combining diverse varieties of techno and house. with an engaging presence and a knack for telling a story, he builds a unique connection with each audience, and works any room until it sweats.
