just when you thought it was safe to get back in the water two of drum & bass longest serving soldiers return with an ep of immense proportions on their own product recordings. with years of experience between them shining through craggz & parallel show their stripes in spades here with four brand new productions designed to put hairs on your chest, some of the most powerful drum & bass you will have heard this year.

midnight moves. thats what comes to mind when you listen to cale parks s n1, preferably at an hour long after dusk has settled around you in some beautiful, insomniac city. parks finds – or more aptly, seeks – beauty and grace in ambience and shadows. n1 starts as pure atmosphere – it feels at first like a sort of lovely sonic nothingness slowly taking form – before growing into the darkly lit, gorgeous moodscape it later becomes. a sensual bassline, a pulsing downbeat, a cinematic piano, strains of italo disco, and the sensation of breezing down a lightless road. if you could make sensuous shapes of the night – imagine kneading the dark itself – it might, at the very best, feel like this. the task of remixing parks s original is taken up by french duo paradis, who can otherwise be heard making music on tim sweeney s beats in space label. the paris-based producers shine a brightening light on parks s dusky creation, quickening its pulse and trading in its darkwave undercurrents for enlivening techno and house. theres an element of floating here – a dreaminess in the rhythms, an astral aspect to the keys beaming through the beats. and with the addition of vocals, sung in french – a pop finishing touch on a song that already feels like an earworm – the transformation is complete. this excellent introduction to cale parkss music is also his debut release on the hakt label.

hot on the heels of dj deeps inaugural kern mix for tresor comes *kern vol.2*, selected and mixed by gigolos boss dj hell. the second 12 inch – the rarities – is a precious collection of forgotten early 90s grooves. on the a-side, none other than mr. daniel bell contributes to this special kern vol.2 with a track that has never seen the light of day since its year of production, 1992 – the chicago style version of his legendary blip title. a collectors piece. the b-side starts with nyc 90s lenny dee and ralphie dees (aka major problems) overdose, a 1990 relentless number originally released on nu groove. back to 92 with sub-cultures - dreams released on hayden browns own imprint strobe. all mixes on the original and rare 12 inch are simply excellent, and dj hell chooses here the forgotten tribal life mix.

nice price deal !!! emil berliner is by some right now considered one of the new most striking and noticeable newcomers of the new dance scene in vienna. his brand new unexpected ep expresses exactly this attitude and takes in before mentioned attributes such as deepness, joyfulness and tenderness. the opening track is called little miss sunshine and definitely has a velvet touch to it, and is very much determined but in a cautious and gentle way. the laid back style is gripping and it is these details which are like rare goods, hard to find goods which appear here just at the right time
