the same people behind emotional rescue launch as fine sister imprint in the shape of emotional rescue, with a near perfect insight into how the label will operate thanks to nzambi - a quite stunning full length album from jason letkiewicz under his alan hurst moniker. if you consider yourself an avid purchaser of vinyl, you will no doubt have added some letkiewicz heat to your collection in recent times, with excellent releases as steve summers and innergaze in recent times. the alan hurst project sees the brooklyn producer in more laid back form, indulging his passion for library sounds and experimental electronics with just as much aplomb. allegedly commissioned to soundtrack a film on modern haitian voodoo, nzambi is a woozily intoxicating thirteen track set that opens your senses to a true darkness in this producers palette of sounds that has not really been explored before.

for signal life #03, we teamed up two young vigorous south londoners: mr. louis carnell, known by his moniker visionist, and mr. marco giuliani, who works under the alias last japan. >control this< by visionist combines his background in south london grime with his signature drum machine template and lo-fi vocal excerpts into a coherent mesh. our favourite visionist track to date! when we first heard >storm trooper< by last japan, it was the tension we got caught up in. the song is focused with a clear direction, uncommon in most young talent, armed with a driving snare-fill rhythm reminiscent of south rap and all that exiting stuff in the 160 bpm. i believe murky is the correct term. we predict interesting things for mr. giuliani.

debut release on machine limited from this la-based production duo (alex mouracade and tk disko of jolly jams). a wonderfully revamped cover of dj camachos underground nu groove hit single slave. originally under the moniker camachos project with vocals provided by regina wilson, split secs updated versions are quite faithful to the original song but with an added production warmth and sonic pressure to each of their mixes. split secs called upon their talented friend alona to perform the vocals, a smoky and sensual mixture to the music–complimenting the catchy keyboard melody that made the original version so recognizable and danceable in the first place. comes with vox, instrumental and raw dub mixes. fans of dfa, golf channel, et al will love it. limited pressing.

>die 4 u< is the murk follow-up to last years underground anthem >amame<, which was released by murk under the intruder moniker. murk consists of miami based producers oscar g and falcon. they are responsible for some of the biggest house records of all time, including >fired up< released under the funky green dogs moniker.

the multi-talented vanese smith aka pursuit grooves makes her debut on deepblak under her new 91 fellows moniker. after establishing herself in recent years with pursuit grooves outings heavy in beats and bass, smith turns her talents to more open sonic landscapes. >91 fellows< represents as she terms her push into cinematic dub leaning heavily on her collegiate film major roots. the project was inspired as a dedication to her grandfather who passed on in 2011. through a myriad of ambient textures, and percussion she invites the listener to join her as she weaves through different emotional headspaces. six tracks that run like chapters of saga accompanied by two remixes by deepblak chief alchemist aybee, and resident rhythm czar afrikan sciences.

moniker of 22-year-old brighton based charlie baldwin who cites steve reich & percussion heavy jazz as main influences for excursions into complex rhythmical territory. uses found sounds, live drums, synth & vocoder for unearthly beauty. kasket kicks off the ep with fallen, and it is apparent from the off that here is an artist very much ploughing his own unique furrow – the track has a polyrhythmic bounce that veers towards bhangra, tethered by a deep melancholic synth chord sequence and a heavily distorted vocoder.

tony ollivierras issued a generous number of singles and eps under the ibex moniker on rushhour, planet e, yore, and his own ibex music, and now follows up his 2010 yore release, meltdown, with absolution, though this time under his birth name. no matter: ollivierras music sounds great, whether issued under his real name or an alias, and absolution is no exception. the infectious title cut gets things moving with a bass-powered blend of claps and funky rhythms before chunky house chords and silken synth figures add to the tracks multi-layered splendour. a jazzier dimension rises to the surface of quick release when the tunes churning hi-hats are joined by royally swinging electric piano playing and luscious synth pads.phase down opts for a purer deep house sound in its focus on kick drums, claps, and futuristic synths, though the track proves that ollivierras naturally funky side cant help but emerge, here as it does elsewhere.

agnes is known for his usual deep, dubbed-out minimal techno productions and explores as well more house-influenced rhythms and textures. agnes runs the geneva-based label sthlmaudio recordings. launched in 2003, sthlmaudio has released tracks by agnes, puma, octex, apoll, cabanne, croatian producers luka & lazo and lately the swiss duo azuni. agnès also had a well received ep on cabannes minibar label (treat me bad) and upcomming releases in late 2006 on plak records, einmaleins musik and perspectiv records. he has recently started to collaborate with the zurich based label drumpoet community under the moniker of cavalier. he also released to date 2 ep under his ray valioso name for real soon records in the uk.

after debuting with an albums worth of experimental, ambient electronic explorations from the hugely talented nyc based jason letkiewicz under his alan hurst moniker, the emotional response label maintains such high standards with their second release. the focus shifts to timothy j fairplay, a uk producer whose growing discography is proving to be impressive too. ears should still be ringing to his world unknown released homage to ancient egypts predilection for psychedelic drugs and its little surprise he has been hand picked for the debut release on sir weatheralls new vinyl initiative bird scarer. the four tracks that make up somebody, somewhere retain that dubby mid tempo poise that permeated fairplays output to date, though he seems to revel in the freedom to experiment emotional response encourages, focusing more on developing expansive patterns of synths on tracks like >aim for the yellow sector< and the title track. special mention too for >i do not believe< which comes on in a deep medi doing digidub style!

record store day is synonymous with exclusive and limited releases and this year is no different. featuring a collaboration ep with adrianyounge from venice dawn and black dynamite fame and adrian quesada from the echocentrics, ocote soul sounds, brownout and grammy-winning grupo fantasma. a first name is not all adrian younge and adrian quesada share, they also both have an equal love of the psychedelic, the cinematic and at the root of it all, soul music. so it was inevitable that a collaboration would eventually come to fruition. mutual admirers of each others work, they first met at the sxsw music festival while on the same bill. both began their production careers on mpc and taught themselves various instruments to further capture the symphonies heard in their heads. fresh off his current solo project something about april under the moniker venice dawn, adrian younge found time to create all new tracks with adrian quesada who just released his echoland tribute to timbaland with the echocentrics. although both are distinct artists in their own right, they are cut from the same cloth with a signature sound thats equal parts morricone, early portishead, wu-tang and 60s psychedelic cinema soundtracks. their combined efforts on this ep guarantees a double dose of the sound we have come to expect from these talented individuals.

loftsoul is the moniker of renowned dj uchikawa masahiko. he has been a dj for more than 25 years, and is deeply involved with the japanese nightclub scene since its early days. his borderless and genre-straddling playing style, from soul, jazz, dance classics, deep house, to techno tells of the impassioned music life of dj uchikawa masahiko. in addition to running regular parties at his club loft in nagano, (which has hosted djs such as joe claussell, jerome sydenham and glenn underground) and premier at loop, uchikawa has been recording tracks as loftsoul, and collaborating with pianist makoto kuriya as rhythm of elements. >soul inspiration< sees loftsouls continued collaboration with chicago house stalwart glenn underground alongside ricardo miranda aka the latin soul brothas. >soul inspiration< is a deliciously deep groove with trademark virtuoso piano for some esoteric soulful dance floor action. the b-side sees the latin soul brothas slow it down for them electronic soul of the moog mix. finally, dj uchikawa and hide koyama provide an essential dub.

mowar has reached its 10th release! this release heads into a darker direction with four solid and mental techno movers. searle is a new name to join the mowar ranks, but his sounds are pure, raw with a pinch of dark ambience. the record opens with the title track mind transfer, which brings a raw oldskool 808 feel layered with hypnotic basic channel-like chords and a subtle but most effective acid line. modern love s claro intellecto on remix duty turns the track into a slow moving warehouse monster, throbbing its way to a drugged chicago-esque jacking feel yet retaining the original darkness of mind transfer. on the flipside succubus lives up to its ominous title. this track is a dark hypnotic affair with fierce kickdrums piercing through an obscure sound palette of eerie pads and deep basses. razor sharp modulated noise then invades the whole thing turning the track into a punishing dark workout. finally unauthorized brings a more edgy and experimental sound to the whole, starting of with a dubby bassline and graveyard shift pads, but once the piercing hi-hats kick in, the track shifts to straightforward almost cristian vogel-like mental techno. by the way… searle is a new moniker of mowar frontman franco cangelli.

djd music is the new imprint from dominic djd dawson whose previous production credits include the infamous shake it for me, a tune that hit the national charts under his hydraulic dogs moniker.joining djd is the magnificent vocal talent of lisa millett whose previous work includes atfcs bad habit that became a top twenty-chart sensation for defected! making up the outfit is finn peters, a prolific saxophonist and flautist playing with the likes of hip hop funk outfit the herbalizer to tony allens afro-beat ensemble and broken beat jazz act new sector movements. holy love is a perfect soulful house tune getting support from the likes of body & soul resident danny krivit. the a side has a live feel with its real bass and fender rhodes working in harmony with lisa’s warm sultry vocal. the flip boasts a charged up version of the original catering for the more energetic dancefloors!

pocket is the snappy moniker of nyc based richard jankovich. as the principal creative mind behind the based electro-pop band burnside project he is not just well versed in top notch original productions but also is an indemand remixer (beck, radiohead, kristin hersh, of montreal, elk city, joanna newsom and many others). his debut release on tirk is the ever-so-tuneful >here in noiseville<. in this first single richard pairs up with steve kilbey from the australian rock band the church. steve adds his thoughtful and emotively melancholic vocal to the classic, quality synth-pop backing track. first up on the remix duties is sister-label nangs favourite german golden boy, justus köhncke. justus takes things on the dancefloor route, by adding bigger synths and some rushent-esque linn drum. both justus vocal and dub versions are included. next up, italian brioski fixates on the groove by adding his slap bass and driving groove.

local talk is proud to present the first release on their sub-label 1nce again. this is where we bring back classic and forgotten house gems from back in the day with new mixes and reworks. for our first release we have gone back to 97 and a producer known and respected worldwide in the house music community with more than 200 production credits under his belt. joshua michaels aka joshua iz perhaps best known for his collabs with dwayne washington as iz & diz but has of course used many other pseudonyms over the years for releases on labels like prescription, balance, classic, junior boys own, om and guidance. the return was first released on heard, sub-label to tom middletons evolution / universal language productions ltd. using his moniker circulation. the track can easily be described as a mammoth house track, clocking in just over 12 minutes. its one of those pieces of music that’s stood the test of time and why iz has been a major force in electronic music for so many years. on the flip much hyped duo prommer & barck stripped it down from its original costume leaving not much left of the source material resulting in something that we best could describe as old school warehouse meets uk bass. its pretty raw and definitely a basement sureshot!

alex and bill met 16 years ago when bill signed one of alex s first productions (is this the rhythm? by rhythmnvibe) to a new york label he was running. alex, whose father lives in the us, was a regular visitor to the states and they sent many happy hours together hanging out at the sound factory bar and comparing maw dubs. when bill returned to the uk in 1996, they had a few sessions together making house music, though neither of them can remember why they never finished anything or, indeed, what became of the tracks. fast forward a few years and they finally got back into the studio to make sweet music together under the moniker hotel motel. since then they have created a rich seam of work that some have already described as, like salvador dali with his pants down being fellated by deirdre barlow. few would disagree.
