returning to leyla after inaugurating the label in summer 2015, manni dee presents counterculture. a brutal yet evocative four track ep that conveys emotive states through noise, rhythm, texture and repetition.

gouru is launching its own label, submersive, with an ep from brendon moeller aka. echologist, including a remix from french duo hbtvsk (voiski & heartbeat).in 2014, to celebrate the 4th birthday of the webzine gouru, brendon moeller and hbtvsk were invited to play at la machine du moulin rouge (paris). following a car accident on his way to the airport of new york, brendon was unable to appear and play. to make up for this unfortunate incident, gouru offered brendon the inauguration of its new label submersive, and invited heartbeat & voiski aka hbtvsk, the duo he was supposed to share the stage with, to remix one track. 2 years later, the first ep of the label gathers all 3 artists who were not able to share the decks on stage, on the same record. as brendon himself says , �all good things take time� and instead of evoking the nostalgy of a party that did not happen, the record opens the doors of the imagination and takes us to a powerful collaboration between 2 artists� generations, thereby showing us the techno scene at its best.zur opens the ball and sets the tone of the ep, a dub and progressive rise, based on a cyclic structure, punctuated by a random reverb. tension is maintained throughout and finally leaves room to filth, whose rhythm is faster, unrestrained, yet keeps an air of suspense and unpredictability - the perfect soundtrack for an exhausting race. looking for trouble plays on a more hypnotic side. with a dark yet electrifying atmosphere, rhythms are exalted by a strident and piercing melody, evolving alongside uncontrollable sounds, throwing us straight into a cosmic trip. faithful to the spirit of the ep, the filth remix delivered by hbtvsk is a perfect exercise of style. without denaturing the original track, the remix revisits it. its� heavy, powerful mechanism is, at the same time, accurate and sharpened. certain parts of the original track are easily recognizable, which finally get lost in the subtle gearwheel of an anthem tinted by noise.

shadows aka and remerge after their unforgettable debut on shifted�s avian imprint in 2012. the long awaited return finds its home on leyla records, in the form of four diverse yet cohesive experimental cuts that take the listener on a journey through the oppressive, the rhythmic, the funky and abrasive.

end of dayz 009 is by the mysterious 30drop. his works are described by himself as detroit techno inspired music mixed with repetitive european techno. in this release -on the next day ep- we find on a side the terror history called -they saw it again- and the jeroen search remix that is a very danceable rhythmic techno with some cosmic stuff. the b side is for -raw- where we can listen to some space bells. here is the remix by an old friend of this label, p.e.a.r.l., bringing the track into a darker place.

the debut release for kalyma on connected, the brixton/berlin based label distributed by kompakt records and run by terranova and stereo mcs. a1 laydown original kalyma teams up with his friend, singer and songwriter peter stanowsky. the song was written during a relaxed and loose jamming session in late summer time at their home studio. the vocal performance is surrounded by a groovy and very percussive beat. after a long, calm intro a hypnotic bass melody kicks in together with more percussive elements in order to get up to full speed. the catchy bass combined with the repetitive vocals gets the listener in a driving, rhythmical, dreamy mood lay down was made to enable smooth transitions in the dynamic range of a diverse house dj set, without loosing energy and create a special intimate, percussive vibe

saft welcomes nortasun to it s expanding roster of artists. with not too much info being available about the artist, the music should do the talking. nortasun comes up with a sample drenched ep that consists out of swell basslines, mind expanding chords and outlandish percussion works. untitled 1 opens up with a carefully placed disco sample that hovers over the rhythms very nicely. the percussion section and the ascending chords serve the overal ambiance while nortasun plays with the extended loop pattern that maintains of interest. untitled 2 serves as a very deep but functional voyage into tribal territory. a vary of percussion sets in and smartly exchanges tones with fx cuts. on the b side fudge fingas debuts on saft with an atmospheric beast of a remix for untitled 1 that constantly grows and cleverly uses vocal cuts that change up the original atmosphere and makes the overall a very broad work of house music. the stevie wonder like clava hit + piano solo s that come in when the remix progresses are all in courtesy of the edinburghian producer himself.

magic source is a project led by producer björn wagner (the mighty mocambos, bacao rhythm & steel band, mocambo records), who is renowned for creating an authentic and hard-hitting raw funk sound. following a few acclaimed single releases on favorite recordings over the past few years, the french label deeply wanted to collaborate further with the german combo, for a special and exclusive project bringing their music on new paths. this new project is a step towards a new style: analog-electronica, or so called cosmic-disco sound.

following on from last years exceptional �obsession ep� from art crime is a budding young talent by the name of will lister. originally from lyme regis, will moved up to london to attend goldsmiths university and in his spare time he helps us out behind the counter here at the shop. when he�s not here at the shop you can also hear him playing records on his balamii radio show or his monthly club night, �the aten�. �the phantom ep� is his production debut and we�re extremely happy to be putting it out on our main imprint. the title track opens up the ep with heavily reverbed pads, echoed claps, crunchy percussion and repetitive synth stabs that all work together to create spaced-out atmosphere that�s full of twist and turns. flipping over to the b-side, �after the light� picks up the pace with a driving high-hat rhythm and full-bodied kicks that underpin warm piano keys and smooth synth lines. �agency� closes proceedings by turning up the intensity to full with a masterclass in building tension.

one of the founding members of apollonia, shonky was responsible for his label�s very first release back in 2012 with �the minneapolis touch�. outside of working on the trio�s debut lp �tour a tour�, shonky has been relatively quiet on the solo tip. here on apollonia�s 25th release we�re treated to four new cuts from the berlin-based parisian, kicking off with plombie&#768,,re (plumber in english). shonky injects a variety of unusual sounds, which revolve around a jaunty bassline, while voices dip in and out of the background, repeating the mantra �house music� together with other difficult to decipher vocal clips. the track has a catchy rhythm that bounces along with aplomb. up next �house me� is a sleazy, mischievous cut with a deadly low end and a seductive vocal that urges you to �house me�. as the bassline rumbles, high pitched effects add a hypnotic element to the track. badboy business.on the b-side we have �perchee�, which is powered by cleverly layered percussion, which is almost �live� sounding. another one of those �shonky� basslines gets us straight into the groove, with utterly contagious beats � this is one to shake the dance floor down its core. finally, �cosmopolis� has that inner city realness flowing through with the chatter of a street corner in the background, a killer b-line and one of those classic vocal samples that is oh so familiar and gets you nodding your head as soon as you hear it. and there it is, four dance floor cuts with plenty of depth and groove in true shonky style� c est formidable!

not too long ago a jiffy bag arrived at parkwest hq. in it was a scratched tdk case with a sa-x tape containing a musical message from years past, simply marked the tape i lost! we sat and listened, able to pinpoint influence and reference but yet hearing something totally new. that this tape surfaced and made it across the years and the miles to us was fortunate. when the synth part came through clear on a later version on the tape, allowing us to remix then it became destiny. emotion, melody and rhythm will always be timeless and these tracks, selected from that tape, are as relevant today as they ever were.

the tenth release in the esd series comes from alan fitzpatrick himself. this double a-side release features full house , a full-force fitzpatrick bomb that rips up the dancefloor with a dizzying bleep melody that ping pongs back and forth above a typically tense, relentless groove. on the flip, the aptly named another way to go combines a 132 bpm rhythm of clattering hats and punchy kicks with intense keys to create a riotous stripped back techno jam

toms due is talented duo from etruria beat crew, they re now back once again on their home label with two bangers urania and caliope and two remixes. one from nina kravizs trip label young protégé nikita zabelin, the second from micol danieli, italian newcomer artist and owner of 030s vinyl record label. on the a side sit the two original tracks. urania is composed of a powerful techno groove on a simple but strong chord fitting perfectly on the climax of the middle of the track. second comes calliope, a toms due signature heavy rhythm with a happy techno synth melody, a must try for all dancefloors. on b side, nikita zabellin shows once again his minimal approach, pure analogue sounds with a bit of darkness. mico danielis chose to use a never ending rhythm that wont ever leave you alone, a very elaborate arrangement. keep an eye on this italian lady producer!

man power left his northern home and ran south of the border. this is his first offering for the esp institute. on side a, he proves that he truly is the tourist, delivering what we�re already toting as our summer anthem�a relentless hurricane drum pattern full of toms, timbales and splashes that lays the rhythmic foundation for his pacific chords and euphoric melodies�an undeniable floor-filler that invites all to dance unencumbered by the constraints of �functional� club music. with side b�s oye, man power rolls out a similarly vibrant combination of drums and rhythm, however he toughens up the aesthetic with a massive rolling acid bassline, only briefly letting up for a spot of layered marimbas and spriteful pads before culminating in an emotional finale. after spending a couple years churning out tracks for various labels around the world, man power has undoubtably shifted his narrative point-of-view and updated his sense of craft upon his induction to the esp institute. these two songs will throw a wrench in your holiday.

deep love is the first vinyl release by stefano pozzi, dj producer and musician. it�s very difficult to define his sound: his creative process led him to merge several genres in a very original way. the artist shows us a great talent combining different electronic styles from deep house to soulful house, new jazz and chill out music. stefano is also a guitar player. with his releases, he shows us how to bring guitar sounds together with electronic music in a brilliant way. in this 12 inch ep, that could be defined as deep house, the artist has worked to merge various elements of house music: the warm sound of a moog organ with a deep drum kick, the use of hypnotic and rhythmic vocal samples, the presence of many jazz and soul contaminations due to the acoustic guitar.

st. petersburg talent ivan latyshev drops a killer ep on the ever-dependable dessous recordings. ivan has been making waves over the past couple of years with his distinctive brand of deep, groove-heavy house music on labels such as what�s in the box, street king and spaghetti monster - but this to my youth ep sees the young russian step up to another level. the title track shows a deep affiliation for classic house vibes, mixed with some jazzy flourishes and swung grooves. the sense of euphoria is tangible, and the spoken word vocals add a level of house mysticism that will be always welcome on deeper leaning dance-floors. cant go away goes a shade deeper still, bringing layers of delay and reverb to the track that help shape a true slow burner. old ages also highlights ivan�s love of jazz rhythms and sounds, building from a live drum break into a rolling deep house monster - its infectious stuff and suggests ivan latyshev is going to be name to watch in the next months and years.

megatraveller aka acid quiff / art brunell / master jet the destroyer returns to cpu with his second long play (c90) cassette for the label - megatraveller vs endboss. megatraveller wonderfully saturates the whole lp with his signature straight to tape, uneasy listening magnetic funk. through the noise you will find plenty of broken electronic rhythms and modular conversations, alongside surgical acid bassline extraction previously not thought possible. j-card insert artwork by stephanie birdie abdallah mastered at computer club.

adventuring into the electronic mystic lands is vincentiulian, who tames the analog machines in his own twisted way into 2 carefully crafted tunes. simodul on side a exploits the whining oscillators to drive the audience into the energy of the simple yet hypnotizing kick. flipping the record we find alpha, enlighting our spirits with its wobbly bassline, entangled within radiant strobes of pensive rhythms.
simodul ep comes in line with the first moment releases, carving new paths into the darker corners of tech house.

eduardo de la calle brings back to memento his trademark analogue sounds and musical experimentations with the golden archives 1 ep. two tracks that once again define the spanish mavericks personal hybrid of detroit techno and european electronica, veering into psychedelic territory and progressive rhythms, and continuing to explore the outer limits of the underground scene. * missing you (edit)*s chants and deep soulful atmospherics build up with emotional piano melodies, while * quasicalligraphic*s mechanical stabs and ghostly synths are accompanied by spectral percussions and melancholic chords.

answer code request picks up where he left off with his album (code, ostgut ton, 2014) and 12� (calm down, mdr, 2015): with the neume ep the berghain resident offers three new tracks, meandering between restrained club contexts and brittle break beats, machinery and futurist soulfulness. the eponymous track �neume� starts off on a with shuffling rhythms atop a heavy kick, soon caught up by first surging then predominant drone motifs, flashing bleeps and piercing strobe sounds. �meta� on b1 clocks in instantly without any build-up: its rhythm section sets the tone with broken beats while acr slowly carves out more musical detail and textures: subtle command vocals from the machine room, swelling synth pads and other chilling, athmospheric means are subsequently being added until the track�s break where the emphasis shifts towards the kick, pads and synth melodies until the track�s sustained, smooth outro. �vis� on b2 is the ep�s most protruding track: classic uk garage shuffle rhythms and amen breaks are contrasted by a funky kick and dreamful pads, intertwined with additional sparse percusion, layered with what in the first instance sounds like chirping birds but then like sparking wires. answer code request continues what he does best: combining the warm human touch with chilled alienated aesthetics.

london based punk duo black volume are not easy to classify. their delirious industrial post punk sounds at times like proto house and at times becomes some sort of mutant electro. their b series sound is made of a conglomerate of filthy percussions, unexpected samples and something with the appearance of melody, with a weirdly addictive result. black rubber is james brown wearing black leather at 40ºc (in the shade) while suffering a mental breakdown. excentric melodies sliding down rhythmic dislexia. negative return blooms from an improvised beat with no traceable sequence, on top of which we find rubbery synth lines, creamy interferences and mysterious sampling, everything sounds like melting from old vhs footage with the future we enter a romantic dystopia. sensual and passionate but equally crunchy, it rises up through cheap calculator arpeggios, pitched vocals and obsessive bass lines. streetfight evoques a desolate landscape, devastated and radioactive. distant echoes from an extinguished human race that left behind only majestic rusty ruins.

british producer reformed society is on a steadfast mission to dig deeper by going against the grain, standing up to the status quo and daring to do something different. a self proclaimed goal that is easily noticeable in his first release for �made of concrete�, wherein he reveals three original tracks and a remix by gathaspar, one of the label�s regulars. kicking things off with �high tension�, a high strung stripped back piece with an aerial feel, the artist builds up the entire mood of the ep from scratch. a clear-cut, steady groove whose versatility makes it relevant as an intro, outro or interlude. gathaspar�s rausch remix is a sub-bassy reinterpretation of the initial piece, filled with contorted whirs and whizzes that give the track a sub- aquatic feel. on �volgende halte�, the opening vocal sample shifts from a seemingly conventional soundbite to a recurringly haunting snippet that remains etched into the listener�s brain. rhythmical rolling pads galvanize the groove, making for an eerie yet relaxed overall vibe. movement inducing from the get go, final offering �orbiting jupiter� centers around wavering bass leads, while playing on a blend of spacious synths and timbered percussion patterns.

baldos next ep is released on good ratio music, the label run by himself and his buddy carlo. as far as we remember the barcelona based producer had always an affinity for dirty drum-machines rhythms and buzzing analog sounds. baldo can be recognised by his choice of style, a fierce and confident house, pure in intent and effective in execution. and this is exactly what you should expect in this new ep. for the eighth instalment of the label they have the remix coming directly from nyc. the boss of lets play house, jacques renault has remixed the change, giving to the track a whole different mind to the track and making a round ep, ready to roll this summer.

matt bridgewater aka callahan first released on 4 seasons back in 2015 with �armshouse� ep, since then he released an impressive offering on dext, featuring a hodge remix, as well as playing shows around the uk. the four track ep, features heavy breakdowns, percussion fuelled rhythms, as well as the club friendly �state of mind� collaboration with uk legend roska. straight club fuelled, dark room business.

on t you get fooled by the name of our 8th release! no up no down is the main title and the song itself is everything but linear. the organic percussion rhythms in combination with the warbling subbassline gets you into the groove from the first moment. the booming kicks and rough-hewn hats is lending a vibrant edge to the mix. a morphing ethereal guitar riff, filtered to the edge and the slightly insane giggeling vocal effects, carry you away in a chant-like hypnosis. nothing here feels like a static loop. it s a masterclass in restraint, tension built to breaking and then get resolved.

hot on the heels of kess kill s launch featuring cute heels, rivet proudly presents kess02 by xaõ seffcheque. while kess01 was in no way a compromise, it was still a very intentional symbiosis between the distilled essence of kess kill and contemporary electronic music. on kess02 we go straight to the core of the kess kill sound and aesthetic with three breathtaking songs by xaõ seffcheque. a contemporary of liaisons dangereuses and d.a.f., düsseldorf based artist xaõ produced some extremely singular music in the late 1970s and early 1980s, which makes for a very proud first reissue for kess kill. this is music so unparalleled that making comparisons is completely redundant. think jacked up post-punk with manic rhythmic tendencies and you�re halfway there. qu est-ce qu il fait chaud!

dj spider makes his debut on radio slaves rekids imprint with four physical cuts this june. a key component in new yorks techno scene, over recent years the plan b recordings and sublevel sounds founder has graced the likes of the trilogy tapes, bleed, killekill and vanguard sound! releasing on rekids as the label celebrates 10 years, spiders ninja drive-by defines why so many hold the american stalwart in such high regard.dirt nap leads the release with syncopated percussion and a thumping low-end that takes no prisoners. tmc is a more subdued production in comparison, blending shadowy synths with an intricate drum workout. planetary disfunkshun then introduces a penetrating melody amongst robust kicks, until montag concludes the package with moody pads and an inimitable rhythm.

paul woolford returns to hotflush with mother & child, his third solo outing on the label following the inescapable anthems,untitled and mdma. mother & child sees woolford explore a different style and more cultivated mood. comprised of two variations on a theme, the lead cut combines both sostenuto and clipped strings in an overarching and evolving melody. theres a sense of menace and foreboding, yet the record�s heart belongs, as ever, strongly to woolfords home turf - the dance floor. this newfound contemplative air is brought to the fore on mother & child divided as he strips back all rhythmic elements to leave a beautifully sprawling tapestry of strings and synth alluring, dramatic and cinematic in scope. one hopes this mother and child find each other again.

martin landskys long association with poker flat recordings continues with yet another exquisitely realized three-tracker. long since a staple of the underground electronic music scene in berlin and europe in general, landsky�s deft ear for dynamics and sense of off kilter dance-floor knowledge continues to do the business for djs and dancers alike. after the great success of vol.1 , landsky now presents �ekko traxx vol.2&#8242,,,. �echo my head� is the perfect example - driving, focussed and funky, yet with a subtle undercurrent that keeps you slightly out of your comfort zone and locked in to the groove. weird night contains a spooky, discordant synth that raises the tension over and over, before giving way to a hard driving rhythm track that will see the late night heads fully losing themselves classic landsky style. that organ has a similar aesthetic, chunky rhythms and bass pulses for the floor, and synth stabs and melodic hooks that keep the track in constant forward motion.

the first r&b rec record is born from the encounter of two artists in the gloomy baltimore of the beginning of the millennium, after years in which their artistic roads proceeded in a very much parallel manner, without ever physically crossing paths, driven by their passion for analog instrumentation and the desire to find and create new rhythmics and sounds. it is in 2013 the two decide to join their forces to create their own personal vision of techno music and dance music in general. resulting in a hot and scratchy vinyl that combines dark, percussion sounds well known from detoit techno, with the sought after rhythmic of breakbeat and drum and base, of the british nineties. also packed with influences of acid-house, this record incorporates features of the so influential 80 s punk era, finally sinking it s roots in the psychedelic currents of the 70 s. the result is a brand new genre which is difficult, if not impossible to define. a unique way of defining dance music, in all its aspects, which is identified under the name of spaceship surgery techno.

ritornell�s richard eigner & abby lee tee originally teamed up to provide the score for a collaboration with filmmaker andreea sasaran and illustrator katja seifert entitled »melting sphere«. sharing a passion for the combination of filigree electronics with playful timbres of diverse acoustic instruments and odd utensils, the cooperation of the two producers was a logical choice.
»melting sphere« merges subsonic bass, kalimba rhythms, accordion sounds and toy bells, all framed by eavesdropping recordings of abby lee tee�s cat, bathroom squeaks for five minutes of organic downbeat bliss.

a-z is a new label started by al zanders ! this stand-out new production talent has already, across only a handful of releases (as lodger on the stamp label & under his own name on karakul & blind jacks journey) made quite a name for himself ! a-z is a new platform for his distinctive and eclectic output after sharing a stage at shambala festival, al was impressed by the 7 piece sheffield group hot diamond aces, who sent the crowd into a dancing frenzy with their bombastic brass licks and afro-beat inspired rhythms. so impressed in fact, that he approached them afterwards with the idea of doing a remix and starting a label. the reworked version of dsomc is a certified corker that has already been tearing up dancefloors. for the flip, things get deeper with an unashamedly happy house jam raiz , which features some twinkling keys from sleepsang. perfect for the summer!

the musical connection between berlin and detroit has always been a very strong and inspring one. jazzanova continues this close dialogue by putting mike huckaby in charge of remixing their latest song i human. huckaby is one of the unsung heroes of detroit techno. with his highly acclaimed deep house productions and remixes for deepchord, juan atkins, vladislav delay, pole, loco dice, losoul, and pacou, (just to name a few) he is more than well respected in the citys underground community and way beyond. his remix for jazzanovas latest track (off the brilliant album funkhaus studio sessions) split into two pieces on this 10inch, is a belter by all means. if you wouldnt know better,youd mistake it for a larry heard/mr. fingers production. still huckaby is putting his very own distinctive touch to this rework: a groovy rhythm section is added for extra emphasis on the dancefloor.and as the track builds we find ourselves in deep house heaven screaming for more. you better order two copies of this limited 10inch, in order to seamlessly mix part 1 intopart 2 - or vice versa

chicago veterans justin long and ken zawacki debut their circling vultures project on l.i.e.s. with three tracks of jackin mid-western techno. the duo sucessfully harness their influences from medusas and the warehouse techno scene of the 90s to create a beating high octane ep full of metallic synths and contorted rhythms somewhere along the lines of djax meets dan bell meets relief records. sure to be in all the bags this summer, this will not be the last you hear of this pair.

tzusing returns to l.i.e.s. with his third and (final?) name out of place ep after two now sought after percusors leading up to this one. again we are not disappointed as the massive opener face of electric hits hard taking a typical breakbeat formula and adding some sort of bizarre ritualistic element like the zulu nation or george kranz in a ceremony at a steel factory. emotional eater slows the tempo down, but again the machines grind hard with tinges of acid, heavy rhythms and sparse vocals moving in and out, while the closer r is a stripped down beater made for mixing. top stuff from the in demand producer.

unrelated is back with black as night ep by vesàlio ( kapvt mvndi ) side project of livio improta, vesàlio was born from the necessity to change something in his way of producing. less rhythm section and more emphasis on the atmosphere and field recordings, the last one the essential part of this project. a1 - in �n at alba- the concept of vesàlio is pure,clear, and deep , where the atmosphere is the main character of the track. a2 - -black as night� probably is the conflict between the two artistical parts, dark and despondent sounds, in contrast with the rthythm of the drum section. the perfect sound for a science fiction movie, totally mysterious ! b - o.xander (nous disques) decided to solve it bringing back the track into a classic raw theme with his antartica reshape
