danny mclewin (psychemagik) and jamie cruisey have a new label of original signed artists called spirits. the first release is from mexican hotness lokier of she made monster and jason greer aka the machine, one of the californian undergrounds best kept secrets. they met in 2015 at a festival in london and after spending a few days together, became musically obsessed with each other. that summer, as jason bounced around europe, he stayed with lokier in barcelona for some weeks and after long night walks, some tapas and absinthe bars they came up with their first ep together.

a new duo launches by the name of ghost vision. joining forces with an introspective, uplifting debut slice on kompakt, the pair are two well-known figures thomas gandey aka cagedbaby, member of matom alongside matt edwards, and daniel mclewin, half of uk-based production duo psychemagik. fruit of these blissful moments when no imaginary wall obstructs the vision and the stream of consciousness gives up to the entrancing magic of the creative flow, saturnus is an upright mano a mano between two musicians and their gear, unchained from all preconceptions and biases, real (machine) talk as the hip-hop heads would say.

in late 2017, thomas gandey and danny mclewin - known from the popular disco-influenced electronic music collective psychemagik - emerged from their studio in bordeaux, france, claiming to have produced an extended musical arrangement, both entitled, and containing the sounds of, the shakuhachi. furthermore, they insisted, for the purposes of this production, and a further album of related arrangements to be released subsequently in conjunction with the successful german record label kompakt, they should be referred to henceforth as ghost vision. shortly thereafter, the audio recordings described by gandey and mclewin came into the possession of noted los angeles degenerate, dj and nymphomaniac citation needed dirty dave, who was quick to relay the hallucinatory qualities of the duo’s productions to fellow dj and trusted hallucinogenic expert paramida, of esteemed german musical imprint love on the rocks. paramida, recognising the innate quality of the sounds presented to her, decided that such recordings warranted immediate release through her audio distribution channel, and not without remixes. quite without thinking of the origins of the instrument which had given the recording its particular sonic distinguishment, and of course, its title, she enlisted the help of two musicians named alex - one from tokyo, and one from kyoto. both alex from tokyo - teaming up with his colleagues isao kumano & kenichi takagi as tokyo black star, known for their prior releases on popular german label innervisions - and his counterpart, alex from kyoto, better known as al kassian, rising tamagotchi on paramidas love on the rocks imprint, and his own label, planet sundae - turned in striking reinterpretations of gandey and mclewin’s composition.

space art is behind the massive hits: “onyx”, “give me love”, “love in c minor” and more. one of half of the band, dominique perrier, is one of legend jean-michel jarre’s closest collaborators. recognized as a keyboard virtuoso, he worked on all jarre’s albums from “rendez-vous” (1986) to “oxygène 7-1” (1997) and still tours with him around the world. space art also toured with him in china in the early ’80s. alongside jean-michel jarre and cerrone they are one of the most influential bands that pioneered electro music.

when psychemagik’s danny mclewin decided to launch spacetalk records, he didn’t just want to reissue rare material. from the start, one of his stated aims was to deliver fresh new versions of obscure cuts from his record collection. it’s perhaps fitting, then, that the label’s second 12” breathes new life into a suitably little-known gem: avant garde’s 1982 euro-boogie b-side, “everybody’s lover”.

the trio have successfully worked together a lot over the last five years, with purnell and murphy releasing a string of superb collections, compiled by mclewin and psychemagik partner tom coveney. all three men were keen to continue this partnership, and have founded spacetalk to re-release long forgotten, little-known or overlooked music, as well as previously unheard archive material from some of the artists involved.

cutters records are pleased to announce the debut vinyl (and vinyl only!) release from their latest signing, the la based artist kauf. since 2011 he has been honing his own dark twist on modern electronic music, with heavy drum production, dense, cinematic synth buildups and high-pitched, echo-laden vocals. his aesthetic lies somewhere in between the worlds of slow house, industrial dance and drony indie pop earning comparisons with the likes of caribou, matthew dear and toro y moi. an internet-only single caught the ears of cut copys frontman dan whitford, who promptly signed him for a forthcoming ep, entitled as much again on cutters records. the first taste of this ep comes in the form of the relocate 12 inch, including remixes by psychemagik, nile delta and moons. kaufs relocate is an dark anthem for the late-night-slow-dance, featuring sparse metallic percussion, chugging synth bass and vocals drowning in a sea of reverb. psychemagik take this vibe and run with it for their 7 minute house tinged rework. cutters own nile delta ups the energy with his signature acid-injection and moons (no recordings) rounds out the release.
