following a live debut at berghain and standout shows at de school and institut fuer zukunft, daniel martin-mccormick returns as relaxer with the fourth installment in the projects eponymous ep series. jamie lee takes over the a-side harrowing screams are framed by strobing chords and a deadly groove. simultaneously euphoric, agonizing and cathartic, jamie lee was written as the climax of relaxers live set and is a prime example of the artists uniquely feral techno. drawing equally on punk confrontations and more haunting emotional explorations, jamie lee is a lacerating and visceral descent. on the b-side, unwind oozes from the speakers, a miasmic cut that builds on the white knuckle tension of jamie lee. a lone synth figure worms its way through pulsating 3d drones, shimmering dissonances and hiccuping drums, rocking out into a quasi catatonic infinity. finally regime change gently floats on the surface of a trash-filled sea, a fading, smog choked reverie.

hot on the heels of the smash release from superlover, mother recordings welcome back simion to the label with his the rhythm ep. simion presents two cuts of upfront house music that are prime for the dancefloor. first up is title-track, the rhythm , a nod to the 90s chicago sound with jacking drums and a sensual female vocal. backed up by a funk-fuelled bassline and a lush piano breakdown that lead into a deep house groove. the b-side feeling good is true to its title. tight percussion, chopped vocals and a catchy synth line all come together in a fluttering climax. this one is sure to leave any dancefloor shaking.

as a contrasting follow-up to our first single from rooteo & mahura’s metta album, the second single on made in green records keeps the format intact with entirely different results. deadbeat’s remix on part one was both respectful and subtly transformative, on part two, new york’s upcoming max mcferren, whose busy 2015 included eps on ultimate hits, allergy season, and 1080p, brings us a startling reinterpretation of album closer harmal very much in keeping with the vein of raw, aggressive house coming from brooklyn since that scene’s resurgence. the original version of harmal finishes the album in fine style, blending tablas, celestial electronics, and short melodica phrases that gradually swell with layers of vocal samples and orchestal pads before reaching a climax and slowly dying away in gradually receding layers of ambient electronics. mcferren’s remix leads off with only a bare framework of techno percussion. the entry of a sampled section of melody from the original signals a rapid transition to more abrasive territory, with sheets of metallic noise slashing through the high end, short vocal syllables stuttering, and an insistent bass pulse building up and breaking down with at least one element constantly in motion.

london’s ghost writerz are back with a banger! following a slew of releases on tru thoughts and a recent mixtape -welcome to ghost town- heating up the streets, jimmy screech and sleepy time ghost return with a big splash on nice up! records. based around a familiar reggae riddim, the track tells the tale of jimmy’s foundation in soundsystem culture, starting in the 80s and name-checking legends such as shabba ranks, yellowman, smiley culture along the way. as the riddim flips we shift forward a generation, 90s dancehall and rap dominate, giving props to hip hop royalty such as busta rhymes and 2pac, then finally firing off a huge jungle climax, dripping in enough amen breaks to set the dancefloor alight whilst giving a little history of the musical heritage behind ghost writerz.

cadenzas head honcho luciano teams with house music legend david morales up for esperanza a long awaited release that will fire up the summertime. david and luciano composed the track together but then each one refined his own personal mix. lucianos flow latino mix is a long tribalistic ground moving crescendo with a sub-frequency dense kick and sparkling nuyorican flavoured percussions. the hand drums ensemble ride a magnetic bass provoking a state of hypermnesia slowly reaching a climax of celestial chords. this subtle spectral progression finally breaks down a feeling of positive trust and spiritual healing. david morales red zone mix is a lengthy dramatic ascension with a darker feeling. stretched textures are the background of a constellation of scattered percussions, over which fast paced hi-hats subliminally introduce evocative strings and arpeggios, as they were coming out, at last, as the hope from the pandoras box.

british artist gazelle twin presents her new audio visual performance show for two vocalists, kingdom come . three tracks from the av show, created in collaboration with video directors chris turner and tash tung, are now available on limited edition vinyl via the vinyl factory. artwork by jonathan barnbrook. the conceptual performance for two vocalists is staged in six chapters, incorporating electronics, film, and the brand new soundtrack from gazelle twin, created from samples and live vocal manipulation. with the piece set on treadmills against a manic, illusory landscape, kingdom come places heightening physical demands on the performers, resulting in an exhausting, otherworldly climax. taking its title from j. g ballard’s final novel, kingdom come will play with notions of feralness, displacement and the uncanny in the contemporary british, urban landscape. the artwork for the ep has been designed by jonathan barnbrook whom has used the track and a.v video for metro as his inspiration. jonathan recently featured in the new design museum exhibition, designs of the year , with jonathan s design for david bowie s blackstar album.

the secret initiative has been cloaked in secrecy since it’s inception in 2009.
over the past 8 years there has been a lot of speculation on who the artist(s) is/are behind this project. is it a collective of artists or a solo artist still remains to be answered. the secret initiative is a multi styled project ranging across the spectrum of acid techno, dub techno, hard techno & ebm mostly done in a 1990’s flavor but with a modern day punchy production sound. here on the latest release we have two peak time dance floor killers. “synesthete” a dark track-y techno climax-er with a whisper vocal sample repeating “i see the music, i hear the light” which builds into a monster of a track. on the flip side is the hard but hypnotic “return to mcmxc” which pays hommage to the 1990 frankfurt technoclub/dorian gray ebm techno sound.

making his long awaited return to salt mines, hymns produces a debut 12” flecked with restrained breakbeats, off-kilter rhythms and glistening pads. opener ‘water acid’ is an eerie amalgamation of aquatic electro and tense emotion, built for a fractured dancefloor deep in the arctic ring. a2 ‘searching for the real’ provides a brief moment of introspection, before b-side leader ‘heinz harald frentzen’ crashes down and amplifies the intensity with sharp breaks and rapid, stark percussion. closing the release, title track ‘waves of nothing’ showcases hymns at his best, utilising lonely synths and equally mechanical and organic percussion to create a sentimental, vulnerable climax.
