break at home is the collected recordings of the mysterious group 2 katara which was formed in athens, greece in 1978 by george theodorakis (keyboards, percussion, vocals) with his close friend dimitris papangelidis (bass, guitars, percussion, vocals) tip! this musical-duo recorded quietly over a decade between theodorakis’ family idyllic home studio in the philopappou hill of athens and the nearby studios theta and sr. for some part, the tracks seem like adventurous experiments or even unfinished samplers or riffs the band starts to develop, but at the same time there are productions that are clearly meant to be the backbone of an album that never came out.

teaming up again with the master of junglist vocals – mc fats and employing the classic soulful vibes of legend cleveland watkiss, break created a full vocal single, with both artists featuring on both sides. we are the people weaves mellow and uplifting piano chords with a strong verse from cleveland, switching to fats for his lick to cut into a heavy drop. weighty wobbling jungle subs, peppered with warm synth bass melodies carry this summery roller through, with both vocalists complimenting each others flavours stylishly. a blissed out dreamy breakdown gets you chilled for a switch back to the second drop bassline, going low and long with the subs. a chilled summery feel good vibe, with some backbone!
midnite classic, rolling in a heavy reggae skank loop for the intro sets a great backdrop for cleveland’s very catchy lyrics and melody. switching to fats for a minimal dnb build up and dropping with his renowned vocal style cutting over the bassline on a junglist style drop. a classic old skool feeling but still with a fresh modern edge, this is an addictive club tune, capturing raw vibes that are always needed in the dance.

wow. now we re talking, all time classic material right here from the strictly archives. the legendary man of many hats armand van helden dropped this almighty, hypnotic slab of deepness under his mole people guise in the mists of 1995. a total deep house classic indeed. dreamy, driving, dubby, hypnotic, narcotic - it has it all. super long tracks, for the dj s to work and for the dancers to get fully lost in. break night is colossal, this one will literally transport the dance-floor to another dimension, guaranteed. sounding as fresh and as relevant as ever. timeless. ocean on the flip steps up the toughness factor with some super hard, swingin nyc drumz, but it still has that otherworldly edge that the a-side drenched us in previously. a near perfect record here, made available again, undoubtedly this will win a new legion of fans it s that good! this one s a tasty 2017 reissue and remaster, featuring both cuts, unedited, as per the original release way back when. essential stuff here. do not sleep.

lake people, the man with a knack for aural subtleties, is spot-on with his first ep for uncanny valley. over the course of four tracks he showcases a quiet different approach compared to the sophisticated house music the leipzig based artist released on labels like permanent vacation or connaisseur recordings. on -break the pattern- he relies heavily on the good old boom tschak-paradigm of electro, without completely giving up his trademark sound. -level msk- combines staccato-type chords with a stuttering beat that stick in your mind. the acidic -september futuristic- with its stoic drumming has almost a krautrock feel to it. on the flipside, the playful -chords in chorus- feels like an early contender for this year s summer anthem with chords and acid lines from heaven. the ep closes with -pull off-, a perfect example for lake people s ability to compose tracks with an emotional depth.

while the original album quiet distortion still resonates on dance floors around the world, we are more than happy to present to you a wonderful and versatile remix package of select album tracks. we believe the lineup of remixers really speaks for itself:

april showers bring may flowers, but this april claude vonstroke brings you the rain break. inspired by two different songs from the 80s - (razes classic break for love and oran juice jones the rain), claude has replayed and re-sung all the music from scratch to make a special cover tune of both tracks changed and combined into a surefire dirtybird classic. to quote vonstroke, i kept singing the break for love bassline over and over again in my head but the vocal that always popped in over the top was from the oran juice jones. i cant explain why that happened but i just thought they went together so well that i ran with it.here comes the b is a much weirder affair. built with massive psychedelic effects, a huge kick and almost no hi-hat pattern, this is late night cavemen music at its best. this big release from cvs will have you wishing for a downpour so you can go walking in the rain.

with the two fellows enrico sangiuliano & frankyeffe from italy gregor tresher again proves his talent to discover great new artists for his label break new soil. enrico s releases on drumcode and secret cinema s gem records and franky s tracks for flash and trapez were already high quality documentations of their exceptional studio skills but combining forces pushed their output to another level. peaktime techno at its best.
