tafi allstars is a collaborative recording project between optimo music artists thomas lea clarke (mr tc) and conal blake (whilst) and members of the tafi cultural institute of tafi atome, ghana. after having previously visited tafi atome to take part in the music of the volta region study tours that are organised by tci in collaboration with green door studio, clarke and blake secured funding from creative scotland to travel back to tafi in november 2016 to record a mini-album of tracks that blend the rhythms and melodies of traditional borborbor and agbadza drumming forms and ewe songwriting with electronic instrumentation and dub recording techniques.

the foundation of this dub album was created by some of the finest sessions musicians ever to grace the studios of 1960s & 70s jamaica. their instruments were the cornerstone to countless dub lps that began to surface in the early 70s and continued on into the 80s creating a whole new genre of music. as they did back in the early days of dub, the kingston all stars gathered together in kingston, jamaica at mixing lab studios and laid down a series of riddims that would lay the groundwork for what comes next: the singers. both greenwich farm rasta, prince alla, and falsetto, cedric myton of the the congos, contribute vocals to the album but half of the riddims on this lp are, to date, unreleased, and have yet to be voiced. in essence, this album is a sneak peak into upcoming releases. the style of riddims that were created during these sessions range from the cumbia influenced reyes dub to the ethiopian jazz flavored kebra dub that pays tribute to the african sound system, kebra ethiopia sound and shows the wide variety of influences that fuel these musicians. tracks like dub ova combine ansel collins keyboard work with hux browns infectious grooves to create a funky rhythm that you have not heard the last of.

four remixes from the youth stand up! album that was released on autonomous africa late in 2015 by jd twitch, midland, auntie flo and general ludd. youth stand up! is a collaborative recording project between glasgos green door studio, lebeha drumming center in hopkins, belize, and the tafi cultural institute based in tafi atome, ghana. all proceeds will go to tafi cultural institute, tafi atome, ghana and lebeha drumming center, hopkins, belize.

just in time for summer, sol power sound is proud to present its 4th release, the djidjo vide ep, a 1-2 punch of afro house by label heads, the sol power all-stars. djidjo vide, the title track on the a-side, features dc (via togo) afrobeat band, elikeh. it s a vibey slice of propulsive afro house about finding joy in the face of hardship. massama dogo s commanding vocals (sung in mina) combined with the driving bassline, and aggressive horns (performed by dc s sticky bear) make djidjo vide a summer sure shot for a roof-top jam, beachside dance floor, or nightclub near you. the b-side, tell me why is darker and deeper, chock full of percussion, a chopped vocal sample, and in-your-face afrobeat horns (performed by matt rippetoe and joe herrera of dc s the harry bells). it s a late-night beatdown that will set things off proper in a dark room!

hot off a couple of 12” from topher horn, rocksteady disco follows up with its first compilation featuring a heap of heavily sampled originals from more well-known editors. pontchartrain leads the release off with a summer-inspired aural prozac number, just in time for this june release. next up is notorious detroit editor lafleur, busting out this original milky-smooth detroit boogie house production. a slight little rearrangement from rocksteady disco label boss peter croce makes this one a bit smoother for the djs. lyon, france’s g2s kicks off the flip with a big-bottomed stomper reminiscent of some mcde ‘raw cuts’. pontchartrain book-ends this release with a track that puts the ‘rocksteady’ in rocksteady disco, with heavy analog-meets-electro drum programming and complete with pontchartrain on vocoder duties. hand numbered edition of 500 copies with dl code.

first light is the first full-length album of original songs from easy star all-stars. the easy star all-stars have built a huge following around the world, having sold over 350.000 records and played shows in over 30 countries on 6 continents. the band - a collective from the nyc scene overseen by producer/guitarist michael goldwasser - has always played original music in its live set, some of which was released on until that day, an original ep in 2008. first light is an important step in the band’s story, demonstrating a wide range of approaches to reggae, from progressive to classic, roots to futurist, confirming the all-stars place as one of the most influential acts on the us reggae scene. the album includes 12 songs and one dub, with guest appearances by the meditations, cas haley, junior jazz, lady ann and tony tuff.

harry j galt als einer der wichtigsten produzenten jamaikas, betätigte sich aber auch selbst als musiker. mit seinen allstars genannten studiomusikern brachte er drei instrumental-alben heraus. das debüt gibt es jetzt als re-release auf vinyl in 180g. *liquidator* erschien 1969 und wurde vor allem in großbritannien ein großer erfolg. der titeltrack zählt zu den wichtigsten songs der damals entstehenden skinhead-kultur und schaffte es auf platz 9 der uk singles charts. weitere highlights auf *liquidator* sind die rocksteady/reggae-versionen des beatles-songs *dont let me down* und des bardot/gainsbourg-duetts *je t aime*. in seinem harry j studio nahmen u.a. bob marley & the wailers auf. dort empfing harry auch musikgrößen wie die rolling stones, the who oder grace jones.

youth stand up! is a collaborative recording project between glasgows green door studio, lebeha drumming center in hopkins, belize, and the tafi cultural institute based in tafi atome, ghana. the results of the collaboration are this nine track album released on autonomous africa. all proceeds from the youth stand up! album sales will be split between tuteme band, belize and tafi cultural institute’s fund to build their recording studio and cultural centre. there will be two 12inches released in late 2015 / early 2016 featuring remixes of tracks from the album by jd twitch, midland, auntie flo and hodge. the 12inches will eau also include an additional bonus track recorded at the original sessions.
