techno 2-track ep

sc-164 is a project based out of brooklyn, ny. the channel series will include music exclusively by greg schappert aka donor, under his sc-164 alias, and will be focused around electro, industrial and experimental music.

for subapical04 we are delighted to have greg schappert return for another ep as sc-164.

scientists. white lab coats. the whirr of computers. sc-164 was a sonic experiment. greg schappert, an electronic musician known as donor, was the willing subject. its purpose? to melt man and computer in audio form, machine music created by an artificial being. but soon it became too powerful, self aware. the creators tried to pull the plug. they were too late. now this assailant floats from machine to machine, communicating its message through serrated snares and bruising bass. sc-164 was cast aside by its makers. now the project has one objective, to corrupt circuitboards and speakers with an infectious strain of corrosive electro.

repress from their 1982 12-on shout - comes with additional 1981 demo version from the sargasso sea track. shoc corridor was the london post-punk quartet of paul o’carroll (voice, synth), andy garnham (synth, drum), chris davis (guitar, bass, e-bow) and nogi prass (synth) named after the sam fuller film from 1963. chris met nogi shortly after moving to london in 1979 – they started playing music together, fell madly in love, and decided to form a band. they recruited andy, who had previously played in a band with stephen luscombe of blancmange, and lyricist and vocalist paul. their influences were wide reaching: kraftwerk, neu, cabaret voltaire, brian eno, pil, and joy division.

for the launch of subapical we welcome a new project from greg schappert aka donor. greg is more widely known for his techno output on respected labels such stroboscopic artefacts, prosthetic recordings and semantica. eastern district blurs the lines between electro, techno and industrial across 4 tracks. vinyl hand stamped with full sleeve artwork by yamako king.

strut presents the brand new album an angel fell from cosmic jazz travellers the pyramids, led by saxophonist idris ackamoor. produced by malcolm catto of the heliocentrics, the album was recorded during an intense week at quatermass studios in london. some of the many highlights include the poignant title track depicting a fallen angel in purgatory, outrage and grief on the powerful, hard hitting soliloquy for michael brown and the lilting, beautiful album closer, sunset. the pyramids originally came together in 1972 at antioch college, yellow springs, ohio where teachers included renowned pianist, cecil taylor. after forming in paris and embarking on a cultural odyssey across africa, the group recorded three independent albums,‘lalibela (1973), king of kings (1974) and birth/speed/merging (1976) and became renowned for their striking live shows, mixing percussive, spiritual and space-age jazz with performance theatre and dance.

georgia-born, brooklyn-based sophia saze set up dusk & haze to release ‘genre-free’ experimental music, exhibited in the label’s debut release entitled ’solace’ ep featuring four versatile cuts from sophia herself and twisted electro and techno remixes from umwelt and benjamin damage. the second release comes from the enigmatic sdx, a masked artist who’s fiercely championed left-of-centre dance music for decades. crunchy drums and a thumping bassline kick things off in ‘ms 04’ before los angeles duo 138 provide an outstanding remix incorporating a cacophony of raw breaks. modulated flutters, warped blips and white noise create ‘ms 08’, leading into the organic drums and off-kilter arpeggios of ‘007’ until new york’s sc- 164 reworks ‘007’ delivering a pulsating sub and distorted vocal chops. sdx’s ‘nocturnal’ drops on dusk & haze on 10th september 2018.

‘prepare to commit the name najem sworb to memory’ commanded philip sherburne when he reviewed the strasbourgers previous record for resident advisor. it wasnt a hard ask, sworb makes some pretty incredible stuff. known by some for his fantastic release on the now defunct ai records and famous renow ep on clone basement series (was supported by josh wink, rod, cassy etc.), najem makes his debut here on technorama records! swaying to the uk sound, this ep clearly targets the dancefloor, delivering four genuine techno tracks structured with the trippy spacey savour that najem is known for. enjoy!
