born in argentina, saxophonist and flutist hector “costita” bisignani arrived to brazil in the late 1950s and in the following years played with some of the biggest names of the era such as joão donato, manfredo fest and sérgio mendes. . in 1964 he recorded “impacto” with his sextet, an explosive mix of tough jazz and brazilian samba widely considered his best work. the album’s ten tracks include three costita compositions, songs by tom jobim and vinícius de moraes and a superb version of horace silver’s ‘tokyo blues’. a killer samba-jazz lp! presented in facsimile artwork and pressed on 180g vinyl.

first repress for h.omevvork rec, and obviously it could only be fuckin’ society! now with the original track remastered and amazing remixes from hector oaks and fabrizio lapiana, two of the best producers around, two different style, two different techno approaches. it’s time for fuckin’ society again!

a quartet of heavy reworks. reginald omas mamode iv truly does what he does best, bringing a percussive, low-slung funk to one of the most ethereal and beautiful pieces of soul on the album, sunshine. glenn astro, elevates bossa b to a jostling, bouncing shuffler that eventually turns around and heads skyward with uplifting chords and irresistible bass. deoke heads into the darker regions of the original for his hugely loved remix of bossa b. the bass on this one is ridiculous and has caused damage to a couple of sound systems were aware of (genuinely). finally the ever exceptional mr beatnick simply took the stereo track for kalimba 2 and edited it into a mind-opening dub. handling bass and harmonics as only he can, a true highlight of this high quality remix package.

mathias is a devoted raver & music lover. his influences run deep into the techno & acid culture and he is addicted to groove & rhythm. together with elad, who is returning the 3rd time to flr, they present two main tracks with remixes from hector oaks & blind observatory.

“there was a time when techno was written with a k, when the music was presented as a song not as a track. it followed a structure - intro, chorus, bridge... these recordings were naive, spontaneous, and raw, that’s what made some of them timeless. taking inspiration from this period, here is my interpretation. contemporary tekno, with a k.”

echolettes second release manzanillo 002, follows up with a similar tropical -journey feeling- as felt on echolettes first release, perhaps setting the style for this excellent new label. whereas before it was pygmys and bongos, this time manzanillo has a distinctly more mexican, if not aztec vibe. the original mix kicks off with steady galloping horse like drums and percussion, which is suddenly met by a lovely melodic bassline, which again is doubled up with what sounds like a xylophone. just as your wondering where its all going, a wicked little riff with delayed minimal vocal slices enter the mix keeping the groove going on and on forever and ever... another brilliant and quality piece of music from jackie misfit
