for ‘disco club’ (1978) i worked with a drummer making loops that were adjusted, to create the hypnotic groove that is so special. despite the fact that it was all recorded in a professional studio (in a suburb of paris) i find this a very ‘artisan’ disk because it was all done using equipment that we now consider “home studio”. my producer, jacky giordano and i chose to use nicknames for the credits: he would be ‘joachim sherylee’ and i would be ‘junior claristidge’. as for black devil, that was the end result of this change: an extension of me, a new character. - bernard fevre, 2015

infectious licks and raw drums come together to form ‘blind disco’, an animated production that blends a cacophony of samples into a raucous party jam. ‘ramen funk’ is a moodier cut by comparison, featuring a medley of percussive elements, vibrant guitar melodies and a seedy bassline, until ‘savanna on the palm’ chops up and loops a wailing vocal sample before leading into echoing chords and a twisted groove in a mesmerising conclusion.

summer is in the air, celebrating in vivid colour and creating everything a new. it therefore seems the perfect time for black hot records to emerge into the light with a pair of cracking disco re-works. the man behind the mixing desk is however no novice, having served up his first instalment of dance floor dynamite way back in 1991, and there followed a decade of underground signals under various guises, before a self-imposed exile and prolonged radio silence ensued…

heading up the release is newcomer bogdan drazic, crunched up horn and elephant blaring freak-house and ebm, perfect for zombie clearance raids. in the amazon. at night. the gates of hell are open and i couldn t possibly describe what s climbing out. last but by no means least is the valencian hero daniel kyo, perhaps the true heir to the throne of the real sonido de valencia, spaced out and cosmic with layers of emotion and sinister atmospherics. they sleep, we live.

london based punk duo black volume are not easy to classify. their delirious industrial post punk sounds at times like proto house and at times becomes some sort of mutant electro. their b series sound is made of a conglomerate of filthy percussions, unexpected samples and something with the appearance of melody, with a weirdly addictive result. black rubber is james brown wearing black leather at 40ºc (in the shade) while suffering a mental breakdown. excentric melodies sliding down rhythmic dislexia. negative return blooms from an improvised beat with no traceable sequence, on top of which we find rubbery synth lines, creamy interferences and mysterious sampling, everything sounds like melting from old vhs footage with the future we enter a romantic dystopia. sensual and passionate but equally crunchy, it rises up through cheap calculator arpeggios, pitched vocals and obsessive bass lines. streetfight evoques a desolate landscape, devastated and radioactive. distant echoes from an extinguished human race that left behind only majestic rusty ruins.
