the argentinian based ngly had seemingly appeared out of thin air landing on the brooklyn based l.i.e.s. label in 2014 with an untitled four track white label ep. on this ep, the unsuspecting track -speechless tape- ended up becoming a cult hit with select djs in the scene (i-f, mick wills, intergalactic gary...) eventually leading to it being voted as intergalactic fm s #1 track of the year in 2014. on the heels of his successful debut rudolfo could have stayed the path and produced an easily digestable follow up dance record or two, instead he chose to take his time and reflect. sitting back in the studio tweaking his live act, recording endlessly, transforming and refining his sound.

following the excellently received dilation lp on film, the duo return to the berlin based imprint for a remix package featuring faltydl, grand optimist, djrum & portable sunsets. erol sarp & lukas vogels ingenious use of the grand piano has won them many plaudits over the years. working solely with the sounds of the grand piano and a set of 20 self-built hammers hitting the piano on different parts - filtered & warped in an extraordinary fashion, the pair craft dense, rousing music - kept fresh & current with nods to idm, ambient & techno. as such, the original recordings are fertile ground for remix opportunities, and the film label call on a whos who of left-field electronica to reimagine the work. nyc native faltydl takes on newtons cradle, flipping the original and turning in a stepping, psychedelic slice of half time proto-footwork while both phillip otterbach, operating under his grand optimist alias, and 2nd drops djrum offer tripping, ambient reinterpretations. 1080p s portable sunsets reimagines key lp cut neon as fuzzy beach house jam, reseting the original & eeking out a wholly different energy with driven drum machine hits & a soothing vox line.

growing more deeply into raars punk ethos, maelstrom and louisahhh s tracks on the labels fourth release are as much about process as end product. several days of one-room, one-take live sessions involving guitar feedback, machine cacophony and endless growling and shouting resulted in hurry and listen. these song were molded into work that is at once unconventional and club-ready with much effort in preserving the feral qualities of the original material.

with their debut lp corolla for antime, the berlin-based trio soft grid captures the explosive energy of its celebrated live shows. soft grid was started in 2014 in an abandoned hospital ward by jana sotzko (of dropout patrol) and theresa stroetges (alias golden diskó ship), who had previously been working together in the improvisation project epiphany now.
