After the unexpected success of “What If I Can”, a song that was actually intended as the first teaser track off the new album “Heart of a Mother”, Douglas Firs now releases the first official single: “One Day”.
Let's talk about the music video first for once, because it is remarkable: for “One Day" Douglas Firs was able to collaborate with Ace Norton, the LA director who previously made music videos for Norah Jones, Bloc Party, Foster The People, Regina Spektor and ... Jennifer Lopez. The result is a beautifully restrained short film depicting a world of its own, see for yourself.
On to the music. “One Day” is a good example of the sound you may expect to find on “Heart of a Mother”: the result of months of writing and recording by a musician in lockdown in his attic studio. The guitars, synths, vocals and percussion are almost all Gertjan's first demo recordings, supplemented with bass and drums by loyal band members Simon Casier and Laurens Billiet.
The mix was done by Kevin Ratterman (Strand of Oaks, Ray LaMontagne, My Morning Jacket) in Louisville, Kentucky. The mastering by Fred Kevorkian (White Stripes, Black Keys) in New York. 'For me this song sketches the scenario of a perfect future between two people', saysGertjan, 'all that could be if it wasn't too good to be true: "And we'll dance all night to 'Crimson & Clover '. We'll have a dog”…'

EXTRA: this exclusive 7 inch vinyl features B-track Traveling Man: a song by friend and fellow singer-songwriter Lydia Cole from New Zealand, in the Douglas Firs version. This B-track will not be released digitally, nor on the full album, so it will only be available on this 7 inch vinyl.
