squarehead is the latest young producer to sparkle on shabby doll, with his *bats & stuff* ep delivering yet more bump and wallop for the discerning house head. otherwise known as oliver ledger, squarehead is possessed of a precocious talent – his debut *keep it moving* ep on bad taste was a juno download number one, while his records have won hard-earned airplay on radio one thanks to supporters like toddla t and skream – and with dj appearances across europe plus his own 5andseven label, he is right at the heart of sheffields current underground scene.

sheffield has long been a hub for electronic music in the uk, spawning acts like the human league & heaven 17 and labels such as the mighty warp records. it is no surprise that a new generation of electronic music producers are now bubbling to the surface of the uk scene. at the forefront of the steel citys musical rejuvenation is oliver ledger, who is more commonly known as squarehead.

you know the story by now, a string of super singles, a number one in the nialler9 irish song poll of 2010 (which turned them into temporary jerks kidding) and a constant string of live dates around the country have made squarehead one of the better bands in ireland and now, we re finally at the debut album chapter. its been a long time coming. squarehead initially recorded their debut album back in september and december last year with shane cullen in k9 studios and save for a couple of extra tracks and re-recordings of old favourites mother nurture and fake blood, the band have patiently been sitting on it since. yeah nothing is a dozen tracks of no-nonsense slacker indie pop, a fuzzy collection of lo-fi rock n roll inspired by surf-pop, old school rock n roll and bright guitars.
