yore returns with a true dream team split ep, pairing yore label head andy vaz with sistrum manager patrice scott. vaz is up first with a beautiful slice of old-school funk and soul within a deep house formula, >back to square one< that has a whole lot more in common with isaac hayes and james brown than with juan atkins or any other techno icon. accompanied by a wah-wah guitar figure and claps, a bullet-proof bass line leads a nine-minute charge thats quickly bolstered by a slinkily swinging drum groove. creamy synth chords and blazing horns intermittently spill over the pulsating mix and then vanish, leaving space for the rhythm to intensify and the track to grow ever more euphoric (and even, towards its close, a bit acidy). a true mission into both funk and house, which again showcases vazs ultimate diversity as an outstanding producer. scott titled his second sistrum release beyond deep and the title might just as easily apply to the b-side >aztecal< where the detroit producer slathers shimmering stabs and congealing streams over a thudding kick drum and flickering percussive detail. while vazs cut draws inspiration from the timeless traditions of decades past, scotts looks towards the future when its gleaming shuttle lifts off in pursuit of distant galaxies.

sistrum proudly welcomes house music legend alton miller to the fold for release number thirty three. for all the little things, alton lays it down in fine form and enlists the incomparable vocal talents of ree to bring the soulful vibrations as only he can. to call this one an instant classic is understatement in the wise words of robert nesta marley, who feels it, knows it.

repress , from moods & grooves to sistrum, brian harden has served up more than enough soulful, synth-led house and techno in his time. it s just the kind of style that suits the mood on d3, and so the label has picked up his essential -chicago to detroit- jam and called upon a fine selection of remixers to rework the track. first up is byron the aquarius, who drops some expressive broken beat drums into the mix to spar with the illustrious melodic tones to great effect. meanwhile the label boss brian gets busy with a classic, straight-up adaptation on his -chicago sur seine mix- before patrice scott opts for an energised variation with poignant new rhodes-esque keys floating on top.

san fran-based artist, tape_hiss releases his second ep on love notes and you can clearly hear both his sound and the label s maturing in tandem. moving on from the depth of his first record, love is a dog from hell, tape_hiss takes things into headier waters, going heavy on the acid and the rugged basslines on this 4 track ep. angelian war storm begins in exactly that fashion, with 303s squelching and bassbins rattling. this continues through the clear standout trackout, the vivian girls. the gears shift a bit on the b1 where sistrum boss, patrice scott is allowed to rework the vivian girls and does so in a warbly, dirty jazz fashion. tape_hiss then closes things out with the title track, realms of the unreal, which uses an appropriate sample annoucing, “this is me, yo. right here”, and it does very much sound to us like this budding artist is annoucing himself to the world in a most proper fashion. we can’t wait to hear what comes next from both artist and label.

2014 repress with new mastering !! supported by: raresh, laurent garnier, kiki, dj sneak, karotte, lee curtiss, alex kid, jimpster, brothers vibe, etc.. i guess we dont have many words to describe this new esperanza in which we are proud to present on this vibe from the one and only fred p (black jazz consortium) and a delightful remix by sistrums favourite patrice scott. the original track is an amazing late night detroit ride which evolves slowly until it makes you feel floating on clouds. it may last 10 minutes but it s absolutely the kind of track you would want to be endless. on the flipside, patrice makes some twists and turns to the original track to put his own trademark signatures delivering another breath-taking emotional space walk. we are proud to release this record and hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

truly beautiful deep house records are things to be treasured, akin to proper songs that will last the test of time, not made to meet a fleeting fad. this is one of those records and a real pinnacle & departure for blm & pawas. although the term deep is an oft overused one, >waiting game< personifies the genres true key traits with a subtly moving groove that gradually builds, using layers of subtle percussion and a rich, warm synth motif to make a rich tapestry of sounds before finally introducing the beautiful female vocal that gives the track its name. patrice scott liked the track so much that he agreed to remix it - his first ever outside of his own, excellent, sistrum label. using plenty of the original track parts but taking it a different direction, patrice really has come up with something special. the track moves along with snippets of the main vocal and clever use of the main synth, the groove being underpinned by patrice s classic sense of production before moving into a more classic >detroit< ending - a mindset with a bigger, more dramatic sensibility
