nice price deal !!! firmly believing against starting a label just for the sake of having a label, cubera labelhead kyle geiger waited to have a specific vision and concept for it before doing so. after almost two years of creating, refining, and revisiting projects for cubera, kyle gei- ger (drumcode, perc trax, droid, & mb elektronics) has carefully crafted a series of productions that carry the melodic presence of the deeper techno sound, while still maintaining the teeth needed for peak hours of the night.

kyle geiger returns on his home label with a set of tracks designed to recapture the basic function of techno. it s music to sweat to at a party. additionally, this package aims to capture a sense of timelessness through melody interwoven with a pumping breed of techno rhythms. the title track, homecoming, starts with a bottom-heavy percussive workout, then presses forward with an array of slowly filtering brighter synth stabs. the breakdown sees an arpeggiated synth slowly overtake the rhythm of the track just long enough to build tension and bring things back to full speed. the verge is a very stripped back, drum track style cruiser, which builds tension with a rising distorted pulse sound filtering in and out. just as it seems that the back half of the track will carry on as planned, a running melody comes in and changes the direction of the entire track. the verge (beat tool) is identical to the original, but build for those a little shy about slightly more upfront melodies.

kyle geiger returns to droid recordings for a three-track suite of techno and rhythmic experiments, jupiter storm. a1 (jupiter, hydrogen edit) builds from a rumbling kick, slowly constructing a space of delayed tones and filtered noisse pressure aimed at the dancefloor. b1 (mars) takes things for a truly unexpected turn, borrowing some of jupiter’s sonic language and reformulating a triple-metered groove with waves of noise and distortion. the title track, jupiter storm (b2) brings the full kick back into the picture riding the mars rhythms against the standard kick for a track that’s driving and infectious.

kyle geiger brings you his third installment on his imprint cubera in a quest to bridge some crucial gaps between house and techno constituents. this time, taking it a little deeper with the use of vocal work from vocalist stefanie jansen for the title track scream, weaving her voice in and out of a strong synth and percussion work out. in the second mix of the a-side, truncate lends his tough, stripped style for his remix of >scream<, providing a welcome contrast to the original. on the other side, >underneath< adjusts the eps sweat dial to 11 with its shit-losing, raw synth hook. the fact that this track even has a sweat dial that goes up to 11 should communicate something really special. the final track step brings more of an stabby, yet scaled back afterhours vibe to round things out, while still carrying enough critical mass to make things a little messy.

following cuberas 2011 debut with the imperial ep, kyle geiger embraces a new era for 2012 with the mimetic desire ep–further establishing his fresh and uncompromising approach to techno, with his blend of traditional low-end strength and thoughtful melodies. the feature cut, >mimetic desire<, uniquely intertwines thick, defined bass with geigers signature percussion, and most notably, a searing hook that will easily find its place in the rising, peak-time mindset of a twisted dancefloor–while simultaneously providing just enough delicacy to successfully march through the early sunrise hours.

droid recordings has always focused on presenting domestic talent. the latest eps contributors are no exception. kyle geiger of drumcode fame teams up with longtime collaborator and friend bobby dowell. they both reside in the technos simmering hotbed, the american midwest. they are among north americas chosen few still representing techno in the place where they were raised and influenced rather then adding themselves to the over-saturated european scene.

after the huge impact of the trackman >dont stop< release which continues to be hammered all over the world, flux gets right back to work with another killer package, this time from label boss chris finke, with remixes and the remaster treatment of his 2009 >shut that door< tracks.
