(vinyl part 2/4) voltage festival is releasing a compilation of 4 ep s to celebrate five years of existence. the ep s are dedicated to four sub-genres of techno and represent the versatility in techno of voltage festival s line-up. the series starts off with a classic techno ep called zener diode, followed by a deep techno one called wiring harness, an industrial release with the name circuit breaker and closing with acid techno called resistor. ltd to 200 copies!

cassegrain announce collaborative ep. the berlin based duo of alex tsiridis & hüseyin evirgen will release new work recorded alongside dj nobu, tensal & lady starlight via their own arcing seas imprint in september. leaning towards the more heady, high octane end of the genre - the three track ep showcases the duos natural affinity for collaboration, maintaining evirgen & tsiridis characteristic finish and atten-tion to detail, whilst providing ample space for the guests to properly colour the work. ct01, alongside tensal, marries caustic drones with a potent lead sequence to produce a perfect peak time roller, whilst cn01, with dj nobu, riffs on a more melodic, stepping approach - maintaining that same rousing energy, but with a more psychedelic bent. cls01, the duos collaboration with la-dy starlight comes in at almost 11 minutes, an ambient techno journey that warps and shifts organi-cally across its extended run time - complete with beat-less intro and multiple segues that work to bind the piece and its different sections into one, cohesive narrative. effective and impeccably produced - but with a keen ear for new & exciting sonics within the genre - this first collaborative outing proves an enviable addition to the duos already impressive discogra-phy.

the red hook grain terminal is a post-industrial unit overlooking brooklyn that serves as a pillar of the recent work of sound-artist, jordan edge. inorganic is a collection of organic sounds that have been degraded by inorganic spaces and working methods. the listener is situated in a three-dimensional world where the deterioration of sound is equal to the creation of the content itself. a world of dampened acoustics, half destroyed spaces, dead room tones and manipulated environmental surroundings.

the fourth release of bassiani was dedicated to various artists. starting from cassegrains track departure seven, we encounter a completely new and unfamiliar artist ersatz olfolks with his track straight road. hector oaks strikes with old school atmosphere by move on circles, walk on lines, while thomas hessler competes the circle with melancholic vibe by his track memories.

in quick succession to arcs-03, which boasted remixes by the mover, shifted and peder mannerfelt, cassegrain keep up the pressure with a new ep of originals arcs-04. returning to their tunnelling hypnotic trademark sound over three focused, club-ready trips, the arcing seas heads channel varied and irrepressible moods into each track. built on solid dancefloor founda-tions and rich in colourful, non-conventional sound design, they scan through tribal ritualism with a side shahmaran, moving to the pumping urgency of caracal and the rolling post-acid workout of vulpine arcs-04 is a straight-up dj-friendly 12inch, something that’s conveyed in the record’s more minimalist artwork.

cassegrains brilliant tiamat releases are back. after the amazing original tracks from cassegrain, well known and respected remixers like svreca, mike parker, tm404 and inland aka. ed davenport have designed 4 tiamat tracks in order to provide a completely dedicated view on cassegrains fantastic ep. the result is simply a bomb.

more driving techno cuts from the selected edits project. the a-side sees italian techno mainstay giorgio gigli team up with edit select, while the flip side offers two massive remixes of asperity from the very first edit select release: first, a stone cold killer from cassegrain, then edit select himself joins forces with markus suckut to revisit the track.

cassegrain & tin man are a deadly combination. old school acid lines programmed by one of the greatest masters in this field meet a super modern techno sound design by cassegrain, who have made themselves a name in the last years for producing some of the finest in dark and experimental techno. for the follow up to their debut release on killekill they have put together three tracks that are outstand- ing. high & low is a slowly swelling minimalistic acid epos of over 10 minutes length which proves the mas- tership of tin man in programming acid loops of eternal quality. 8 beats length only, but constantly evolving. no chance for boredom. the b-side starts with sex kit, a dark acid stomper with a chirping percussion which is well suitable for the peaktime dancefloor, followed by sand maze, a sublte minimalistic ambient acid piece, that winds its way into total dissolution. we are quite sure that this is the way acid should sound in 2013.

master-class techno - about cassegrain - what should we say? they did it again. in fact alex and hüseyin had a great brilliant year in 2012 and 2013 starts stronger with this double 12?. tiamat is not just a collection of techno tracks, its one of the best techno tracks we have heard so far and everybody with some techno nerves should recognize very fast what treasure this is.

modal analysis is a new label born in athens, greece and devoted to experimental and conceptual techno. the first ma release plate belongs to cassegrain, the berlin/thessaloniki based duo with recent vinyls for prologue and m_rec.the two tracks, plate vol.1 and plate vol.2, designed for long trips on the dancefloor. coming from berlins legendary raster-noton label, kangding ray completes the debut with a suspenseful remix of plate vol.2.

m_rec ltd is proud to welcome on board cassegarin, greek-british producer tsiridis and berlin/vienna based composer and producer evirgen. in this new vinyl m_rec ltd, they show two original tracks and a remix by ed davenport. the a side opens with a painter of modern life, a track where they paint their perfect rhythm of modern life. a sequence of hypnotic techno where the rhythms are never heavy, clean sound. a brilliant and apparent melody seems to revolve around. a touch of class that only few can maintain.complete the a side, a remix of an artist who has a lot of quality: ed davenport (figure spc, liebe detail, nrk music, etc.) he drags the original track into a vortex of syncopated rhythms and deep atmospheres, the groove that comes out is amazing. on the b side cassegrain show one track. palette is very techno, the rhythm is direct and straight without stopping. light and soft sounds rise up slowly. everything is transformed into a pleasant trip, exciting and alive.

“cuidado madame”, arto lindsay’s first full-length album of new material since 2004’s salt. the album is titled after an infamous 1970 julio bressane film about oppressed housemaids revolting against and brutally murdering their mistresses. the literal translation is “careful, madame.”
the album is produced by lindsay. it features melvin gibbs, paul wilson, kassa overall, patrick higgins, ryu takahashi and thiago nassif.
candomblé (spiritual rhythms revolving around possession and trance) served as the foundation for the record. the process began with recordings of atabaques in brazil. lindsay wrote melodies and lyrics over the rhythms in the studio in brooklyn.
the album is an exploration of the cultural nexus of afro-brazilian spirituality and western modernity.

in 1996 paul birken released the classic and now rare as hens teeth surfin superior double 12inch on woody mcbrides communique label. this was to be a revered and respected record that influenced many and is still talked about and played today. now, some 19 years later he follows it up with part 2. nobody works as hard at getting human sounding chattering from their machines as birken and here he treats us to 8 massive cuts of grinding techno that are as humorous as they are danceable.

a brand new analogue melodic techno label is born from tim gaal (adepth audio) & jack wax. this first solo e.p. from tim has an excellent warm remix package to offer and tim is making a statement with this one! great warm synth paths & deep melodic sounds!

in june 2011 subtext recordings was restarted after a six year hiatus for the release of the second lp from emptyset, titled >demiurge<. this album represented a transition from the first two subtext releases, a pair of seminal experimental recordings from the groundbreaking duo vexd, switching path into a new terrain that allowed for the distortion and dissolution of the sequencer grid and shifted the focus of the label from the programmed to the composed.
through this development subtext recordings has evolved into a conversation between emptyset, the ex-vexd artist roly porter, and composer paul jebanasam, who has spearheaded the revival of the label. this new release continues this dialogue by commissioning both porter and jebanasam to respond to the material contained within >demiurge< and develop their own interpretations of the original album.

emerging elements is adepths new ep of diverse, quality electronic music produced by talented dutch artists. its adepth audios seventh release and showcases the work of four of these artists and producers. mila by dan9er is reminiscent of classic chicago house, with its striking, angular bassline. the track is an homage to mila. dan grains in a beautiful world is a track from another dimension—expansive and melodic, incorporating sounds which suggest detroit-inspired music from mid-90s amsterdam. the luxuriant sound of true indentity is relaxing techno for the after hours, again proving rob belleville is one of the most detroit-inspired talents of the netherlands. détaché is a young producer determined to record fresh sounds influenced by detroit, deep house and modern techno. shapes & shadows is his most recent work, and features great bass variations and warm, relaxing synthesiser chords.

zum fünfjährigen bestehen veröffentlicht tonkind nach langer zeit mal wieder eine vinyl ep. zur feier sind es auch gleich vier interpreten die sich hier der party schenken. unter anderem die turmspringer, die sich zum jubiläum ihres labels mit einer frischen jazzig-treibenden-minimal track präsentieren. in „coqauvin“ fliegen nach aller turmspringer manier die fetzen, das selbst dem gockel die luft weg bleibt. ihren einstand als produzenten team feiert mit „vuja“ herr süüs & her sauer, die seit jahren schon als djs die berliner underground szene aufmischen und mit beherschen. auf der b-seite hören wir dann kotelett & zadak mit capriccio, welches so kühl und nüchtern daher kommt. hier wird einmal mehr minimal gegrooved und mit einer homöopathischen dosis an sounds die besten gefühle vermittelt. breger, der einzige „nicht-berliner“ auf dieser ep und beatplantation apostel aus dem ruhrpot schließt die ep mit „grain ball“ ab und zeigt, wo lang und wie schell der hase laufen kann. dubig, frisch und percusiv rollte er das feld von hinten auf. im ganzen eine sehr bunte und lebendige ep, die aus allen richtungen den wind blasen lässt. mögen die, die darauf tanzen sich keinen zug holen.
