with a lengthy discography on influential imprints like his own sub static, triebstoff, dumb unit, contexterrior, and more, falko brocksieper has been a force in the development in deep, minimal sounds for a decade and a half. working alongside label co-head m.i.a., sub static and sublabel karloff released music from prestigious producers - rené breitbarth, mathew jonson, pan/tone, dj slip, shonky, and themselves - from 2001-2010 and established the lasting reputation of falko while identifying their label as a source of quality dancefloor ideas for its decade-long run.

4 tracks, taken from the cd album! in >shortcake strategy<, fairytale-like melodies are backed with thought provoking harmonies that pave the way for an explicitly visual experience. we have been introduced to a new face of the berlin-based producer. shortcake is a simple recipe. it doesnt take a lot of planning or much thought or attention when preparing it, and in the end, it will be light, fluffy, sweet, and perfectly satisfying. falko might say the same about his approach to the creation of >shortcake strategy<, yet the end product sees his most dynamic and emotional productions to date, leaving us with the feeling that this comes from a strategy that requires far more thought, and is far more complicated than that of a sugary dessert.

his this years 2nd album >heavy day< still heavily resonates in peoples ears, now that falko brocksieper already delivers an appropriate follow-up. on >fresh 727< brocksieper finds back to raw, sketchy arrangements, evolving their full energy just from deep, rolling basic grooves, as opposed to the close examination of each tiny sound and every dramaturgic peculiarity in the recent longplayers production. on the title track >fresh 727< noisy, maurizio-esque house chords encounter futuristic vocal messages, while edgy, classic drumbox-riffs rip up the dense atmosphere of the track again and again. a deep, marching groove and the freeminded combination of elements signalize special club moments from the very start. on the backside >request< turns out to be an equally organic, sizzling counterpart, which can promote its sustainable cheerfulness alone by its ongoing bouncy bassline, in a way that all accessory parts get dispensable - to the benefit of a well-balanced blend of rattling percussion, carved vocals and quirky atmo...s

played by james mowbray, jeff samuel, john tejada!! news from the anti claves-biter fraction: sub static-label boss falko brocksieper follows suit and warms up for the next album-quantum-leap, however, as a finger exercise first, there is this small, fine ep with three elegantly knitted smashers for the dj from world. as usual this man simply shakes the funk out of the sleeves, so he can afford to pass big music already for the aperitif, which is always best for the meal, right? >esque< builds up the break culture quite high, without falling however, as the pleasantly massaging bass foundation stands firmly against wind and tide. this is the club counterpart to the lightning rod, bundling the crowd s attention perfectly and focusing it to one point, between a glass of vodka (located at the dj-booth) and the horizon (in the head, man, in the head!)

support by chloe & jennifer cardini !! actually, a tragic fact that the two label owners of sub static never enriched the own catalogue with a cooperation, but then again, there was no time, passion, and maybe also the right tracks hadn t come yet. now we found them, the ideal components, and thus this split- ep succeeds to involve both sides of the same medallion in an extremely animated conversation, which also the party benefits from. a real brocksieper starts off the record, with that slinky, permanent groove which everyone likes to ride on, as it s making you look well on the floors which signify the world. then the flipside laxly continues where just hopped, speak: a little bell rings, the beats pose, the shiny side always in the floodlight. however, the mood changes - functionality mutates to emotiveness, the music floats differently. this can only be m.i.a., who still disassembles sounds with never known precision, gets ideas in order, simply generates funk. so the tone is given for the next techno season, thanks for that
